Middle School Program Manager – Red Hook Initiative – Brooklyn, NY

Summary/Description: The Middle School Program Manager oversees RHI’s middle school programming and supervises front-line staff and youth workers. The role involves planning program schedules, coordinating programming, monitoring attendance and engagement, and tracking DYCD outcomes. The Program Manager will work closely with the Director of Programs to ensure that all RHI goals are met and that program activities closely adhere to the mission of the organization.

Responsibilities: The responsibilities of the Middle School Program Manager include but are not limited to:

Manage the day-to-day operations of an after school program serving 50 middle school students.
Supervise the front-line youth work staff.
Assess needs, design agendas and hold weekly staff meetings with middle school team.
Work with the Director of Programs to develop program plans, schedules, and activities that will meet overall program goals.
Complete DYCD reports and ensure that program complies with guidelines.
Act as a liaison between local schools, partner agencies, students, and RHI.
Coordinate with external partners to deliver programming.
Hold parent meetings on a quarterly basis and establish monthly communication (emails or newsletters).
Plan trips and enriching activities for program participants.
Handle behavior, attendance, and participation issues that may arise among participants.
Manage participant tracking folders, daily attendance, and paperwork.
Make referrals to internal and external social service agencies for participants, as necessary.
Attend lectures and trainings that will build on the knowledge and skills needed for this position.

Other

Maintain accurate records including attendance logs, documentation of services, and sign-in sheets for participation.
Create reports on outcomes and participation.
Attend all staff meetings and planning meetings.

Skills, Knowledge and Abilities:

Minimum of three years of experience working with middle school students or proven knowledge of middle school aged youth and youth development.
Ability to communicate effectively with a wide variety of stakeholders, through writing and verbal communications.
Proven management skills to support staff member’s strengths to yield high quality work from the team.
Ability to keep accurate records and statistics; attention to detail.
Ability to plan programs, set goals, and create timelines for implementation.
Ability to work independently.
Willingness to collaborate on projects and work with a team.
Must be enthusiastic about youth work.

Experience & Qualifications

Bachelor’s Degree preferred.
Resident of Red Hook preferred.
English/Spanish, Bilingual preferred.
Two years supervision/management experience.
1-2 years of experience designing programs, creating program plans, and meeting overall program goals.
Prior experience with DYCD contracts and reporting preferred.
