Research Manager – SEIU 775 – Seattle, WA

Summary: SEIU 775, Washington State’s and Montana’s long term care union, seeks a Research Manager to help fulfill our mission to unite all long-term care workers, improve the lives of working families and lead the way to a more just and humane society.

Reports to: Growth and Member Programs Department Directors

Location: Based out of SEIU HQ in Seattle, WA

Research Manager: The Research Manager supports the Local’s efforts to win for members, advance progressive economic policy, organize low-wage workers, and health and reform long-term care and healthcare. The Research Manager oversees a team of 4 researchers across two departments. Among the duties of the research team are to perform quantitative and qualitative analyses, write industry and company profiles, understand market data in key industries, help draft policy, gives strategic advice on campaigns, analyze and cost contract proposals, and present findings to internal leaders, regulators, coalition partners, and other decision-makers. The duties of the research manager include:

Supervising, assigning work to, and developing the skills of the Local’s research and policy analysts.

Ensuring high standards of research materials produced by the Local for public consumption

Developing campaign strategy

Heading research projects on major campaigns in the areas of bargaining, organizing, and policy

Presenting materials to advocates, allies, and public officials

Working on union or political organizing campaigns as needed

Qualifications:

Ability to perform at a high level in one or more of the areas of quantitative analysis, policy development, or industry/market research, with an ability to understand and supervise work in the other areas.

A minimum of a Master’s degree in a field such as economics, business, public policy, or a social science.

At least 3 years’ experience with research and/or policy analysis.

Demonstrated experience managing or leading other staff.

Proven commitment to progressive social change and to building worker power.

Strong analytical skills, with advanced knowledge of spreadsheet or database programs

Advanced writing and communication skills.

Ability to work well and creatively under tight deadlines, in a team environment and independently.

Willingness to work long and irregular hours when needed to meet campaign demands. Some travel required.

Compensation: Salary ranges from $74k – $81k, DOE. Benefits include fully employer-paid family health, dental and vision insurance, life insurance, a generous leave package, an ORCA Transit Card, fully employer-paid pension (defined benefit plan), 401(K) plan, cell phone allowance, and other benefits outlined in the policies of SEIU 775.
