Director of Education – The Picture House Regional Film Center Inc – Pelham, NY

The mission of The Picture House is to create a “Shared community experience for diverse audiences through film, education programming and unique cultural offerings.” Education is, therefore, central to our mission and integrated into all Picture House programming.

The Director of Education at The Picture House is responsible for the oversight and execution of all elements of our mission-driven education program for ages 4 through adult.

This program currently includes classes and camps held on site at The Picture House; school and community group residencies, after-school programs, and enrichment/delayed start programs; curriculum-driven screenings for school groups at TPH; and education elements within TPH general programming.

The education director will be responsible for:

Setting the vision, strategy, and curriculum framework for education at TPH in close collaboration with the Executive Director and the Director of Programming: She/he
Develops and communicates curricula and teaching goals and standards
Recruits, trains, schedules, and supervises teaching artists
Evaluates teachers (in-class setting)
Nurtures relationships with area educators and administrators
Collaborates with the Marketing/Programming Director and the Communications Director on marketing and public relations materials
Performs outreach and develops contacts/relationships in order to increase enrollment and foster demand for future education
With the Executive Director and the Director of Programming, develops quality and brand standards for all TPH class and workshop films
Administrative:

Oversees all educational administrative functions including:

Staff, screening and program scheduling
Program budgeting
Grant proposal and report development
Student recruitment and enrollment – including marketing strategy, relationship management, and outreach
Equipment inventory, maintenance, and procurement (including needs forecast)
Maintains education outreach contact and email lists
Maintains attendance and financial records
Manages supplies for all on-site, school, and public programs
Oversees maintenance of ancillary educational areas, such as the Screening Room and the Satellite Film Lab
Creates and distributes all necessary classroom materials
Teaching: The Education Director may teach up to 4 hours of class per week.

QUALIFICATIONS AND COMPETENCIES

Bachelor’s degree required; Master’s degree in arts education or film studies strongly preferred
Broad knowledge (and passion for) films and film production
Arts education/teaching and management experience
A strategic thinker who can set long and short-term strategies
A project manager who organizes and executes effectively
A flexible and collaborative team player who builds strong working relationships with staff, teaching artists, Board members, and with outside educators, students, parents, and cultural partners
An energetic and enthusiastic self-starter who demonstrates initiative and can work independently
Possesses excellent oral/written communication and presentation skills
Demonstrates professional and polished demeanor in telephone, email, and in-person interactions
Exhibits strong supervisory skills, including training, coaching, and mentoring
Multi-tasks, works well under pressure, and consistently meets deadlines
Proficiency in MS Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint,

Additionally, all candidates must have strong understanding of the nonprofit sector and the demands of working in a mission driven environment.

Position Details:
The Director of Education position is a part-time, salaried, position approximately 20 hours per week. Benefits available.
