Project Coordinator – InterIm Community Development Association – Seattle, WA

InterIm Community Development Association is seeking a Project Coordinator for a Healthy Neighborhood Initiative. The Project Coordinator will have primary responsibility for InterIm CDA’s Civic Engagement and BUILD Health Challenge program grants. This position is a one-year, grant funded, part-time position working 32-hours per week or .80 Full Time Equivalent.

InterIm CDA is committed to work that achieves true neighborhood change. The Project Coordinator will lead planning for the Chinatown-International District (C-ID) Healthy Neighborhood Initiative, utilizing a health- and place-based community organizing strategy to partner with residents, business and property owners, schools, health and community service organizations, and housing providers in the Chinatown-International District-Little Saigon neighborhood. The Coordinator will work closely with community partners, the public helath department, hospital/health services partners to develop a healthy neighborhood action plan; organize residents around engagement and leadership-building activities; develop and maintain partnerships with key organizations in the neighborhood; collect and analyze data to determine strategies for implementation; convene partners to develop collective impact and outcome measures for these projects.

The Healthy Neighborhood Project Coordinator will have to have proven capacity in grassroots organizing, leadership development, and relationship management.

Duties and Responsibilities

Convening and Facilitating Healthy Neighborhood Planning Initiative:

Primary staff person convening and coordinating steering committee and priority workgroup meetings, training workshops, and events.
Facilitate the steering committee’s development and adoption (with input from workgroups) of:
Formal operating and governance structure and decision making process
Shared healthy neighborhood outcomes and indicators of success
Design and creation of a strategic action plan
Sustainability plan
Coordinate and oversee contracts with partner organizations and consultants.

Creating a Healthy Neighborhood Action Plan

Working closely with the Steering Committee, other key staff and consultants, take the lead to
Develop outreach and engagement plan with community partners
Coordinate, collect, review and analyze data. Determine needs and method(s) for collecting additional data, identify intervention opportunities and strategies.
Produce and present reports on neighborhood health indicators for Healthy Neighborhood Steering Committee and Workgroups and external stakeholders.
Develop and facilitate processes for reaching consensus/making decisions for priorities and focus areas.
Provide coordination, training and quality control oversight of collaborative organizations in uniform data collection practices and procedures. Utilize tools such as surveys and focus groups to gather information to determine needs, outcome measurements, and progress of organizing work.
Network and build relationships with other agencies and organizations that could collaborate on data collection efforts, research initiatives, planning, implementation and impact assessments.
Working with the key program and communications staff, and consultants, document and write case studies, reports and articles based on quantitative and qualitative research related to our Healthy Neighborhoods initiative.

Organizing residents and community members around engagement and leadership-building activities

Work with InterIm CDA staff and other partners to develop and implement strategies around resident engagement in the Seattle Chinatown-International District.
Cultivate and support a leadership base of residents who are involved in efforts in the Chinatown ID District.
Plan, coordinate, and host community and planning meetings for residents and community partners around various methods for involvement in the community through collaborative partnerships. Many of these meetings might be in the evening.

Other responsibilities as needed, including:

Monitor and manage relevant grant program budgets.
Prepare funder progress reports. Participate in funder evaluation.
Support fundraising efforts, including researching and developing grant proposals for civic engagement and healthy neighborhood work.
Participate in organizational events and special events as required.

Minimum Qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree or four years of relevant work experience is required.
Demonstrated project management experience.
Ability to work with a diverse group of partners, staff, and stakeholders of various backgrounds.
Experience designing and facilitating trainings and meetings; managing work groups
Experience working with diverse, low-income communities, and a deep knowledge of urban policy and the issues affecting low-income urban residents.
Exceptional interpersonal, writing and verbal communication skills, with the ability to serve as an external voice for InterIm CDA.
Ability to work independently and with a team.
Demonstrated experience as a grassroots community organizer.
Proficiency with Word, Excel, Outlook, and Internet-based research and communication.
Willingness to undertake a flexible work schedule, including attending night and weekend activities

Desired Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

Master’s degree or equivalent training in relevant field is highly desired (e.g. Masters in Public Health)
Ability to speak and understand a second language, particularly Chinese or Vietnamese is preferred.
Familiarity with the network of nonprofit service providers, community organizations, and other entities in Asian/Pacific Islander communities.
Demonstrated expertise in successfully designing and carrying out quantitative and qualitative research and evaluation processes including experience with public health or neighborhood health measurement indicators is highly desired

Physical Demands:

Ability to move around Chinatown-International District and City of Seattle, including going to different locations for meetings.
Ability to pick up materials, food, and other things necessary for organizing meetings.
