Group Leader – Queens Community House – Jamaica, NY

Queens Community House (QCH) is a settlement house founded in 1975 to provide individuals and families with the tools necessary to enrich their lives and build healthy, inclusive communities. Through our school based youth development services, a comprehensive year-round youth development program comprised of afterschool, holiday camp, and summer components will be offered.

Responsibilities:

Understand and enforce summer camp program expectations, policies, protocols and fulfill all duties laid out in the job description
Plan and facilitate integrated learning, recreational, arts and developmental activities for youth
Write and submit sequenced lesson plans in advance
Ensure a safe and engaging classroom environment
Demonstrate effective classroom management skills
Demonstrate appropriate communication with students, teachers, staff, and other collaterals
Facilitate the adherence to the summer camp schedule
Track attendance, performance, and behavior (both positive and negative) through accurate record keeping
Participate in training and staff development activities
Organize special events as necessary
Communicate with Program Director and/or Assistant Director about any issues including schedule modifications or important behavioral or environmental difficulties
Perform other duties as assigned

Qualifications:

High School Diploma or GED and must be enrolled in an institution of higher education
Minimum of one year of college with good academic standing and currently enrolled
Must have a minimum of two (2) years’ experience working with children
Must be able to plan and facilitate leadership activities, community service, civic engagement, and current events.
Ability to lead and participate in group sports, fitness, recreation and creative activities.
Experience in developing group lesson plans or integrated learning packages
Familiarity working with youth in a variety of settings
Must have a commitment to work from a strength-based and/or youth development perspective
Interest in providing quality educational and enrichment experiences to youth
Bilingual (English/Begali) a plus
Specialization in enrichment activities a plus
Excellent organizational skills
Ability to coordinate multiple tasks and responsibilities
Ability to work efficiently and effectively under pressure
Excellent interpersonal and verbal and written communication skills
Willingness to participate in team oriented work
Must be cleared of NYS DOH and DOE Fingerprinting; NYS Clearance Review Background check; 3 Reference Checks; Physical examination with updated TB test.
Must be able to start September 14, 2015
Must be able to work five (5) days Monday-Friday from 2:30 pm – 6pm 20 hours each week
Must be able to work holidays
