Executive Director – The Alliance for GLBTQ Youth – Miami, FL

The Alliance for GLBTQ Youth coordinates a full range of quality services through partnerships with many Miami-Dade County service organizations. We serve youth, families and their communities while advocating for equal rights and status of all youth regardless of their real or perceived sexual orientation or gender identity/ expression.

Basic Function

The Executive Director has responsibility for The Alliance for GLBTQ Youth’s programs, overall operations and future planning; provides direction and oversight to ensure the organization fulfills its mission and moves towards its broader vision; collaborate with the Board of Directors to develop strategies and create fundraising plans to support and sustain the organization; deploy effective financial management practices; manage public, community, government relations, and organizational partnerships.

Responsibilities and Specific Duties

Demonstrate leadership promoting The Alliance for GLBTQ Youth’s vision and mission, and build support for programs and initiatives related to mission within the organization and community.
Provide strategic leadership for the organization by working with the Board of Directors and the management team to establish and execute long-range goals, strategies, plans, and policies focused on organizational capacity, growth and sustainability.
Foster a client-focused, community-oriented, and accountable environment at The Alliance,
Actively participate in local and regional collectives, collaborations, and initiatives aligned with the organization’s mission across sector impacting GLBTQ youth, their families and communities.
Oversee development and fundraising efforts with a strong focus towards diversification of funding streams including cultivating donors as well as oversee special events related to The Alliance mission.
Represent The Alliance with funders, organizational partners, the community, media, government, and other agencies; Serve as the community expert on GLBTQ youth issues related to The Alliance mission and served population.
Provide operational management in executing budgetary tasks and monitoring financial health of the organization.
Participate in Board committees as needed.
Ensure organizational capacity is maintained.
Attract, hire, retain, and develop a high quality talent and provide guidance, mentoring, and training in effective management practices.
Work with the Board of Directors on mission execution.
Other duties as assigned.

Background and Experience

Demonstrated cultural competency and a commitment and passion for The Alliance for GLBTQ Youth’s philosophy and areas of program work.
Experience and familiarity with the gay, lesbian, bisexual & transgender, and queer communities and youth social services or related fields.
Knowledge of and/ or willingness to learn about anti-oppression and anti-racist frameworks preferred.
Demonstrated capability in leading and implementing community and organizational initiatives, including oversight of multiple projects.
Comfort with and skilled at networking within a variety of sectors.
Minimum of five years of senior management experience.
Working knowledge of nonprofit fiscal management, including fund accounting and budgeting.
Established capabilities in networking, public speaking, written and oral communication and interpersonal relations.
Demonstrated success in public and private fundraising.
Clearance of level 2 background screening.
Master’s Degree in social work, management or a related field required.
This position requires travel throughout Miami-Dade County; individual must have reliable transportation and insurance.
