Development Associate – Malala Fund – Washington, DC

Position Summary: The Development Associate of the Malala Fund will work closely with the Development Manager, Digital Fundraising Manager, and the Malala Fund team to create and maintain donor data on individuals, corporations, public/private foundations and others who support the Malala Fund’s global education advocacy and programs. The Development Associate will also assist the development team and CEO in cultivating new, strategic partnerships.

Essential Responsibilities and Tasks:

Engage in research to identify new individual, foundation and government prospects.
Prepare background memoranda for development meetings.
Maintain and expand a funding database.
Assist in preparing financial reports.
Assist in the development and coordination of a high net worth donor program.
Draft fundraising letters and appeals; help maintain regular correspondence with foundations, donors, and prospective donors; oversee traditional and digital correspondence.
Assist programs staff in preparing draft grant proposals, maintaining a grant calendar, and preparing required reports for existing grantors.
Be part of creating a productive, innovative and engaging culture.

Required Education, Experience, Knowledge, Skills and Ability:

At least two years of nonprofit fundraising/development experience, preferably with significant foundation and high net worth donor fundraising experience.
Experience with budgets and analyzing and reporting on financial data.
Experience with fundraising databases required; prior experience with Salesforce strongly preferred.
Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field.
Interest, enthusiasm and genuine affinity for fundraising and working with people.
Experience in fundraising efforts integrating marketing, communications and digital engagement.
Strong writing, research, organizational and presentation skills.
Proven track record of building/managing relationships.

Knowledge of general international development landscape, partners and organizations.
Specific experience in start-up or social entrepreneur organizations.
Prior experience working in digital fundraising.
