Coordinator, Virginia Coalition for Immigrant Rights – Virginia Interfaith Center for Public Policy – Richmond, VA

Position Function: Provide support and coordination to advance the goals of VACIR and implement the terms of current funding agreements, specifically laying the groundwork for implementation of the president’s administrative action on immigration known as Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) and Deferred Action for Parents of Americans and Lawful Permanent Residents (DAPA). This position will be housed at the Virginia Interfaith Center for Public Policy (the Center) and the Center will provide supervision and support for the coordinator. For the first three months of 2015, this staff person will help identify and strengthen a network of individuals and organizations that will help inform and educate people about the process of implementation for DACA/DAPA and coordinate the work of our partners as well as two short-term field organizers. In later months, they will support the ongoing coalition-building work of VACIR and help with the next phase of DACA/DAPA implementation.

Report to the President and CEO of the Virginia Interfaith Center for Public Policy.

Responsibilities:

Maintain a strong command of the current immigration debate and a solid knowledge of state and federal policies related to DACA/DAPA.
Coordinate efforts with VACIR coalition members and other immigrant advocacy partners and community organizations to offer accurate information about DACA/DAPA.
Work with local advocates to amplify the voices of persons directly impacted by DACA/DAPA. Collect their stories and support them to be heard in the media and among decision-makers.
Coordinate meetings and activities of VACIR and keep members informed about specific activities among its many partners.
Maintain the website, write press releases, promote VACIR members for media interviews and generally represent the coalition.
Oversee contracts with partner organizations including community organizations working on outreach and education efforts.
Work with Virginia Interfaith Center staff to develop and manage annual program budgets and work plans.

Qualifications:

Commitment to comprehensive immigration reform with a clear path to citizenship and to helping implement the presidents DACA and DAPA executive actions.
Experience in organizing and outreach activities.
Strong interpersonal skills
Skilled at building relationships with other organizational and community leaders; experience working with multicultural communities
Bilingual, preferably Spanish/English speaker
Basic understanding of communications software, website platforms (WordPress) and social media
Excellent written, verbal and presentation skills
Experience supervising staff preferred.
