Casa Cornelia Law Center is a public interest law firm serving San Diego County by providing quality pro bono legal services to victims of human and civil rights violations. Casa Cornelia has a primary commitment to the indigent within the immigrant community. Our programs include representation to those seeking asylum, abused and abandoned children, immigrant victims of domestic violence, human trafficking, and other serious crimes who are eligible under U.S. law for immigration relief. Casa Cornelia provides such pro bono representation through support of volunteers, such as private attorneys, law students and interpreters/translators under the mentorship from Casa Cornelia staff attorneys.

JOB DESCRIPTION:

The Director of Pro Bono Programs is responsible for supporting the work of Casa Cornelia by building and cultivating its network of volunteers and representing Casa Cornelia generally in the professional community. He or she is Casa Cornelia’s liaison with law firm pro bono departments, solo practitioners, and in-house counsel offices to recruit attorneys who wish to volunteer with Casa Cornelia and then works with Casa Cornelia staff attorneys to train and mentor volunteer attorneys. He or she is also responsible for recruiting law graduates, law students, undergraduate students, and non-lawyer professionals seeking to volunteer with Casa Cornelia. The Director of Pro Bono Programs also oversees the Volunteer Interpretation and Translation Program. He or she maintains a minimal case load, including both direct representation and mentorship of volunteer attorneys, drawn from throughout Casa Cornelia’s core legal programs.

REQUIREMENTS: The Director of Pro Bono Programs must be a California-licensed attorney in good standing. He or she must be a skilled attorney with a minimum of three years of legal experiences. Preference will be given to candidates with immigration legal experience and/or experience in various legal settings. The candidate must have excellent and professional written and verbal communication skills, strong and effective interpersonal skills and good judgment. Proficiency in a foreign language is also preferred. He or she must be willing and able to represent Casa Cornelia to the professional and educational community in furtherance of its programs.

The Director of Pro Bono Programs is a full time position. Salary is commensurate with experience. This position is eligible to receive paid benefits including medical, dental, life, and long-term disability insurance. Additionally, the selected candidate will qualify for paid time off, twelve paid holidays, and a rewarding and professional work environment.
