At Newark Legacy Charter School, we believe in developing the scholarship, discipline and character necessary for students to gain acceptance to, succeed in and graduate from demanding, college preparatory high schools.

Founded in 2009, Newark Legacy Charter School provides a high quality elementary/middle school option to the residents of Newark, N.J. We currently serve 600 scholars enrolled in grades K-5. Our impact will grow as we continue to add a grade each year until reaching full capacity serving approximately 800 scholars in grades K-8. Fully aligned to the state and strongly correlated to several national and international standards, our academic program maintains a particularly intensive focus on literacy. Developed by our school’s founder, the Oral Literacy Enrichment Program (OLEP) is a unique program that develops scholars through the use of strategies such as choral reading, recitation, creative dramatics and debate.

JOB DESCRIPTION

We are currently seeking a dynamic Spanish Teacher who is passionate about the school’s mission of preparing all scholars for success in a demanding college-preparatory high school. This is a full-time position that reports to the school’s Chief Academic Officer.

For this role, the Spanish Teacher will be responsible for but not limited to:

● Designing and/or delivering ambitious lesson plans to continuously accelerate student progress beyond basic grade-level competency.

● Provide one-on-one tutoring or working with students in small groups, on a daily basis to ensure academic proficiency.

● Utilizing assessments and data tracking systems to guide lesson plan development and implementation.

● Working collaboratively in professional learning teams across grades and content areas.

● Initiating and maintaining positive relationships with students and their families.

● Embodying the mission, vision and core beliefs of Newark Legacy Charter School.

● Teaching, modeling and enforcing the school-wide clearly defined systems, structures and rules.

● Provide support, guidance and feedback to students and team members to ensure academic achievement.

● Planning and implementing school-wide events and presentations.

● Completing administrative tasks in a timely manner.

QUALIFICATIONS

● Valid New Jersey CE/CEAS/Standard certification in World Languages/Spanish is required.

● At least two years of experience working in a high-performing urban elementary school.

● Possess excellent verbal and written communications skills.

● Open to receiving feedback and implementing solutions to improve professional growth and performance.

● Willingness to take responsibility for student success.
