ABOUT THE ORGANIZATION:

Urban Dove TEAM Charter School boasts a unique 3-year program that combines an award-winning sports-based youth development component and a project-based, highly personalized academic approach that, together, will energize, educate, and empower young people who need an alternative to traditional high school.

Some highlights of our program:

Students are members of small, single-gender teams that practice together, play together, go to class together, and receive support services together
Students spend significant portions of each day playing and participating in a sports, health and fitness curriculum
Each team of students is accompanied and mentored by a Coach
Coaches are supported and mentored and will be provided with rigorous professional development
Urban Dove, a non-profit with over 10 years in youth service, serves as an Institutional Partner to the school

POSITION OVERVIEW:

The UD Team Coach will use his/her passion for sports, health and fitness to change young lives. As a member of UD Team, Coaches will use the power of sports and physical activity to engage, educate, and energize at-risk youth in Brooklyn. Coaches will use their passion for sport and wellness to help struggling students to re-engage in the academic community. Coaches will not only provide athletic skill development, but also teach communication, teamwork, leadership and occupational skills to their students.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

Carry out SBYD curriculum in partnership with head coaches/senior team advisors
Create lesson plans, taking attendance, and assess students on and off the field
Delivering Youth Development Curriculum during advisory
Daily one on one check in with students
Conducting aggressive student outreach and ensuring that student attendance is in place and reportable
Overseeing crisis intervention and conflict mediation in partnership with social worker
Assisting students in partnership with social workers with services needed to ensure school attendance once barriers are identified
Providing students with continued support and feedback (both academically and socio-emotionally)
Facilitates communication between students and teachers
Working with parents/guardians to ensure involvement in student’s academic career
Working in partnership with social workers to facilitate student intake interview process, intervention (behavioral, academic, crisis) planning
Working with supportive case management entities (Foster care, probation, ACS) as the liaison between the agencies and UD
Keeping accurate documentation of student’s progress towards their goals and next steps in the process

QUALIFICATIONS:

Bachelor’s Degree
Demonstrated ability to “multi-task” and deliver high quality work
A strong commitment to UD Team mission and core values of Teamwork, Communication, and Leadership
Open to feedback, willingness to take personal responsibility
Ability to function well as part of a team and work independently
Extensive coaching background
