Lead Preschool Teacher – Brooklyn Kindergarten Society – Brooklyn, NY

Brooklyn Kindergarten Society (BKS), a non-profit organization which manages five day care centers/preschools in low income neighborhoods in Brooklyn, New York, is seeking to hire highly-qualified group teachers of toddlers and preschoolers.

BKS was founded in 1891 and since its founding has provided excellent care and education to the children of Bedford-Stuyvesant, Brownsville and Crown Heights, Brooklyn. We were rated one of the top seven school readiness programs in Greater New York (out of 1,700 organizations reviewed) by Root Cause Foundation. We provide full day, year round care for children who are stimulated by the various curriculum studies initiated by them and guided by the developmentally appropriate principles of the Creative Curriculum.

We are currently seeking lead teachers who are interested in joining our team of hard working and enthusiastic staff who want to make a measurable difference in the lives of low income children.

GROUP TEACHER: Minimum Qualifications/Requirements:

– NYS Professional ECE Certification (Birth-Grade 2) OR Valid NYS Permanent Certification B-2 or N-6.

-Completion/Passing of NYS Teacher Certification Tests (LAST, ATSW, CST)

-Minimum of 2 years experience working with children ages 2-4 years old

-Knowledge of child development principles and Developmentally Appropriate Practice

-Creative, flexible person who believes deeply in CHILD-CENTERED learning and gentle guidance/discipline

-Knowledge of Creative Curriculum

-Familiarity with Teaching Strategies GOLD online (assessment system)

-Be willing to be a strong support person to other teachers in the classroom

-Culturally competent approaches to teaching and interacting with families
