Education Department Intern – The English Speaking Union of the United States – New York, NY

Description: The ESU seeks an Education Department intern for Summer 2015. The internship provides an opportunity to participate in the day-to-day operations of an international, educational non-profit organization. Interns closely work with all members of the Education Department. They assist with a variety of ESU Education programs, including study aboard programs and professional development opportunitites for teachers and students. Perfect for a current university or graduate student in the New York City area interested in English and Education.

Typical Responsibilities include:

– Assist staff at the New York City Shakespeare Teacher Intensive on July 23 & 24, 2015 (A partnership with Folger Shakespeare Library in Washington D.C.)
– National and local outreach to schools and educators
– Create and/or update ESU Education program materials (programs, newsletters, etc.).
– Create and compile promotional, fundraising and follow-up materials (surveys, brochures, etc.)
– Fact-checking, filing and data-base entry and other organizational duties as needed.

Qualifications: Interest in Education and English. Excellent communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills. Must be detail-oriented and able to work with Microsoft Office package (Word, Excel, etc.). Ability to work with Shakespeare texts essential. Previous experience working with teachers and/or students helpful, but not required.

Time Commitment: 10-15 hours per week.

This position is an unpaid internship. College credit may be obtained. If transportation costs are not covered by your school, a NYC Metro card will be provided.
