Program Assistant
Worksafe is seeking a highly motivated and organized individual passionate about social justice to be our Program Assistant to provide project assistance and support to our programs which include our Black Workers’ Outreach Project, our efforts in the California Worker Outreach Project, our support services to legal aid organizations assisting low-wage vulnerable workers, our policy advocacy, and many on-going worker campaigns. The Program Assistant will be critical to our organizational mission: achieving justice for California’s low-income and immigrant workers, particularly those from Black, Indigenous, and communities of color.

ABOUT​ ​US:​
Worksafe is an Oakland-based worker justice-focused nonprofit that advocates for the health and safety of California workers, in particular low wage and immigrant workers. Worksafe advocates for stronger legal protections to keep workers healthy and safe on the job. We work with legal aid providers, unions and other worker organizations, and community and environmental groups to improve working conditions for Californians and bring justice to the workplace.

POSITION​ ​SUMMARY​:
The ideal candidate is responsible and organized, has a sharp eye for detail, thrives when handling multiple tasks in a team environment, has strong written and verbal communications skills, and demonstrated excellence working in a related supportive role. Worksafe is operating remotely with offices in Oakland; this position’s duties may require occasional work based in our downtown Oakland office, and in-person work as necessary. This is a 12-month position with the possibility of extension.

CORE​ ​RESPONSIBILITIES
The Program Assistant, reporting to the Chief of Staff & Equity, has a broad range of critical duties that make it possible for Worksafe to function effectively, by providing effective administrative support to our legal advocacy and program work. Principal duties include:
Administrative support with documents, calendars, webinars, etc. to support the smooth operation of Worksafe’s programmatic work
Project assistance on administrative matters for programmatic events, outreach activities, trainings, and activities including scheduling, logistical details; prepare and finalize programmatic materials
Administrative support for legal, advocacy, and program work, document preparation and proofreading, data entry and logging, client communication, filing, organizing and decluttering filing and programmatic systems, etc.
Under direction of legal and advocacy team, prepare, proofread, and submit legislative support letters and other advocacy materials
Support attorneys with client/case intake, assignments and reporting
Assist in the development of technical assistance, training and other materials, including research, proofreading, and design of presentations, advisories, and other materials
Support organizational external program communications via web and social media
Provide other general program support as needed

Skills, Qualifications, Knowledge, and Experience
Excellent interpersonal communication skills
Demonstrated strong office / administrative experience working in a team and collaborative environment
Strong ability to work independently
Demonstrated success at completing assigned tasks on time
Demonstrated interest in providing a supportive role in a nonprofit setting
Ability to write in a clear manner
Excellent time management skills and ability to multitask and prioritize work
Strong proofreading skills
Attention to detail and problem solving skills
Demonstrated commitment to social justice
Self-starter, independent problem-solver, with ability to manage priorities and troubleshoot challenges
Enthusiasm to learn and grow in a collaborative staff environment
Demonstrated proficiency with Microsoft Excel; Experience with Quickbooks, Google Docs, Salesforce and/or related software strongly preferred
Additional language skills and abilities a plus
