Communications Manager – MapLight – Berkeley, CA

MapLight is an award-winning nonpartisan research organization that reveals money’s influence on politics, providing journalists and citizens with transparency tools that connect data on campaign contributions, politicians, legislative votes, industries, companies, and more to show patterns of influence never before possible to see.

We are seeking an experienced Communications Manager to develop and execute a variety of communications programs that will expand the reach of MapLight’s new form of journalism. We need a strategic thinker with solid media relations and writing skills.

Responsibilities:

Develop strategic communications plans
Develop new and manage existing relationships with media, influencers, and partner organizations
Write pitches, press releases, and media alerts and package for distribution across multiple platforms
Track media coverage and measure audience reach
Fulfill incoming media requests
Effectively manage team of communications interns

Required qualifications:

3+ years of experience in a communications or marketing role; journalism background is a plus; agency experience preferred
Experience representing an organization to the public and media, 100% on message
Exceptional project management skills with a track record of delivering on objectives
Knowledge of politics and the legislative process
Media relations experience
Experience cultivating media relationships and managing a media relations program
Dedication to 100% accuracy
