Position Description
Nevada Public Radio is looking for a dynamic and hard-working Development Specialist to support the Development Department. This is the perfect position for a career-minded individual interested in joining a growing media company.

The Development Department has an essential responsibility to work with listeners, members, businesses and the community to fund everything that is heard on News 88.9 KNPR and Classical 89.7 KCNV and read in Desert Companion magazine.

Summary
The Development Specialist will work in a team-based environment on the scheduling, planning and execution of all fundraising campaigns and special events. This includes on-air campaigns, online auctions and day-to-day fundraising activities including direct mail and ticket giveaways. The Development Specialist initiates and manages ongoing contact with Nevada Public Radio’s core constituency – its listeners and members. This position is integral to the success of the Development department and is relied upon to reach departmental goals and objectives.

This position reports to the Development Manager.

Duties and Essential Job Functions
· In a team-based environment, assists in the development, planning and execution of all fundraising initiatives.
· Works with other members of the department to achieve departmental goals and objectives.
· Assists with member relations; may include responding to donor inquiries, executing scheduled mailings, recording member information in donor database, verifying and uploading pledges, and applying payments to member accounts.
· Works with other staff members to ensure the availability and delivery of items needed to complete daily, weekly, monthly and annual tasks (i.e., makes sure that inventory of stationary is on-hand to complete monthly renewal mailing, orders mailing supplies for shipment of member thank you gifts, etc.)
· Solicits items for the semi-annual Online Auction fundraisers through consistent outreach and by developing relationships with individuals and businesses on behalf of the organization.
· Builds benefit event ticket/giveaway entry web pages, drafts on-air promotional scripts for events and giveaways, attends benefit events to distribute tickets and assist where needed.
· Communicates fundraising messages on-air through live and recorded breaks in programming.
· Works closely with Development Manager as directed and performs miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
This position will be evaluated based on demonstrating the following knowledge, skills & abilities in carrying out all the duties assigned:

Ability to effectively solicit individuals, businesses and foundation in person, on the phone and in print.
Ability to manage multiple projects, deadlines and personnel seamlessly.
Ability to develop and maintain relationships with donors, vendors and partners to fully monetize relationships for the benefit of the station and its revenue objectives.
Knowledge of membership development and media fundraising principles and practices.
Strong computer skills and knowledge of spreadsheet, word processing, and proprietary donor management software is a critical necessity.
Strong interpersonal and communication skills and the ability to work effectively both within the department and to build consensus across departments and with management.
Ability to gather data, compile information, and prepare reports.
Knowledge of planning and scheduling techniques.
Ability to foster a cooperative work environment.

Requirements
Bachelor’s degree preferred.
Advanced Microsoft Office skills and comfort with Adobe platforms.
Prior PR, events or non-profit experience is preferred, but not required; however, candidate must display an ability to learn quickly.
Effective communication skills, attention to detail, data management skills, initiative and ability to own projects from start to finish, can approach tasks strategically as well as own and master the details.
Ability to prioritize and use effective time management skills.
Flexibility in scheduling beyond a traditional work day including nights and weekends, with little notice.
Ability to arrive to work on time, work a consistent work week, and attend outside meetings and events.

Salary
Commensurate on experience; full-time, non-exempt position with excellent benefits package.
