Victim Advocate – Safe Alternatives

S.A.F.E. is committed to providing services for children, youth and families who have experienced or are at risk of abuse and violence. SAFE Alternatives for Everyone is a private non-profit located in the Temecula Valley with a satellite office located at the Southwest Family Justice Center.

Key Responsibilities:
Perform confidential needs assessment, case management, and appropriate referrals to victims of crimes within the Foster Care System
Advocate for victims within multiple systems including: Criminal Justice, Family Law, Law Enforcement, Child Protective Services, and Social Services.
Complete thorough safety needs and risk assessments with client and their families
Complete in-depth phone screenings and preliminary intakes with individuals accessing services
Provide Trauma-Informed case management services to families and individuals
Meet with walk-in and scheduled clients.
Work cooperatively with other agencies and individuals involved with the client to ensure comprehensive service delivery to the victim and non-offending care providers.
Provide Trauma-Informed services to all clients within and outside of the Foster Care System
Maintain accurate documentation on every contact with clients.
Keep information related to the clients confidential, as requested by clients and dictated by professional ethics.
Facilitate Youth/Teen Education groups on an ongoing basis.
Explain resources available to the victim and children to assist them towards becoming survivors.
Provide court support (court accompaniment for clients) to victims, as needed.
Maintain client files and ensure that all appropriate documentation is represented in each file and cases must be maintained in audit condition.
Regularly attend outreach events, resource fairs and community meeting to educate and provide awareness of the (UV) Program
Maintain ongoing excellent communication with supervisor keeping them informed of case status/caseload
Responsible for case presentations during Case Review Meetings
Provide statistical information on all cases assigned
Attend trainings and community education, as required
Complete other duties as required and assigned

Specific Educaton,Certification and Skill Requirements:
Bachelors Degree in Social Services, Social Work or related field required. Applicant must have completed the 40 or 56 hours Domestic Violence Training. Immediate opening for a skilled Case Manager to work as part of our agency’s team and new program serving victims of crime within the Foster Care System. SAFE offers a team of social service professionals committed to assisting families impacted by abuse and violence. A successful candidate must possess 3-5 years experience working with and advocating for victims of crimes. Experience working with the Foster Care system is preferable. Must have a strong desire to provide critical/crisis based case management services to victims and their families. Additionally, we are seeking an individual that has excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to problem solve. A successful candidate will be required to attend a 40 hour Victim Advocate Training in Sacramento all expenses paid by the agency.

Qualifications:
Ability to take initiative and work independently with guidance while also working as a member of our agency’s overall team.
Must be able to provide culturally sensitive outreach, guidance, support and resources.
Assist victims in completing the necessary paperwork to obtain needed services.
Educate clients of the legal system, generic resources and also work collaboratively with community partners that include Southwest Family Justice Center, Foster Care Agencies and others.
Ability to advocate assertively on the victim’s behalf while keeping communication with clients confidential.
Must have a clear understanding on the dynamics of abusive relationships, and the psychological impact of abuse on victims and children.
Ability to understand, be sensitive to, and have empathy for others.
Ability to develop trusting empowering relationships and to work effectively with individuals and families from diverse racial, ethnic, and socioeconomic backgrounds.
Must be able to intervene in crisis situations, using sound professional judgment, ethical practice, and common sense.
Ability to work cooperatively with Family Justice Center partners and other community agencies on behalf of victims.
Must have basic knowledge of the family court system.
Must have excellent computer skills/literacy.
Must be willing to submit to background investigation.
Must have reliable transportation, driver’s license, and car insurance to drive to community events, appointments etc.
