About PSE Healthy Energy

PSE Healthy Energy is a non-profit energy science and policy research institute dedicated to supplying evidence-based, scientific information and resources on the public health, environmental and climate dimensions of energy production and use. Our work predominantly focuses on unconventional oil and gas development (e.g., “fracking” and enhanced oil recovery), renewable energy, and energy storage. We have offices in Oakland, CA, Ithaca, NY, and New York City that house our positive, high-functioning team.

PSE Healthy Energy researches, publishes and communicates about scientific and technical topics that advance the field of clean energy. Our mission is to bring scientific transparency and clarity to energy policy discussions, helping to level the playing field for citizens, advocacy groups, the media, agency staff, and elected officials by generating, translating, and disseminating scientific information. No other interdisciplinary collaboration of physicians, scientists, and engineers exists to focus specifically on health and sustainability at the intersection of energy science and policy.

Renewable Energy Program Associate

The Renewable Energy program’s objective is to accelerate the transition to a clean, renewable energy future along pathways that concurrently realize health, environmental, equity and resilience co-benefits. The Renewable Energy Program Associate will play a central role in expanding PSE Healthy Energy’s work in this field.

PSE Healthy Energy often must act quickly in response to the changing research and policy landscape, and the Program Associate will similarly need to spot opportunities and challenges as they arise and address them. The role will require comfort working and communicating with people from diverse backgrounds, including scientists, physicians, policymakers, engineers, journalists, advocacy groups, and the public.

Responsibilities include: conducting long-term research projects, applying science and engineering to inform policy and regulatory matters, staying abreast of evolutions in the clean energy and electricity sectors, publishing in journals in the field, and serving as a scientific resource for policymakers, advocacy groups, the media, and the public.

Potential projects may include: analysis of the air quality, health and equity impacts and benefits of the EPA’s Clean Power Plan, lifecycle analysis of materials used in renewables and energy storage, developing pathways to accelerate the transition to a low-carbon power infrastructure, and more. PSE Healthy Energy is a small organization expanding its work in the clean energy space, and the Renewable Energy Program Associate should be self-motivated, intellectually curious, willing to adapt to multiple roles, able to operate in a fast-paced environment, and ready to bring new ideas to the table. The candidate should be excited to work in an environment where there is always more to learn and there is always a new frame to put on a problem.
