Office Manager – Durham People’s Alliance – Durham, NC

The People’s Alliance is Durham’s home of progressive community action. The Office Manager position requires 20 hours of work per week, with potential to grow. Staff should possess excellent administrative and organizational skills, proven communication abilities and also have a passion for social justice and progressive political action. The duties of the position include:

Administration, Operations, Finance(8-10 hours per week): manage a range of organizational and membership development activities including:
Coordination of membership renewals and new member recruiting;
Maintaining the member database and effectively using it to target communications and identify members’ areas of interest;
Supporting logistics for a range of member and community events
Managing financial integrity, including general bookkeeping, banking deposits, tracking and reporting budget progress, maintaining staff taxes and payroll, and paying bills;
Manage incoming correspondence and direct as appropriate to Board members or Action Teams.
Serve as initial point of contact for members, orient new members to the organization and help connect members who have mutual areas of interest; and help ensure effective use of volunteer resources.
Maintain office equipment, filing, and organization.

Communications and Marketing(4-6 hours per week): communicate effectively with members and the public by:
Maintaining the PA website, which is based on the Nationbuilder platform, and working with Board members to provide content for the website.
In collaboration with Board officers, produce bi-weekly email Activist Alerts
Producing quarterly hardcopy and e-newsletters and other materials to keep members informed of and engaged in PA activities.
With Board support, help to maintain a consistent and effective presence on PA’s social media sites, such as Facebook and Twitter;
Ensuring an effective flow of information between members, the community and the Board, including timely answers to phone calls and emails.

Support Board and Action Teams(3-4 hours): help organize PA’s members and Durham’s broader community on priority progressive issues by:
Meeting logistic support (reserving meeting locations, copy materials)
Communication (advertising to membership via Action Alerts and social media, communicating to the general public via press release and calls to media, if appropriate.)
Building and maintaining relationships with community partners and allies;
Motivating and coordinate member volunteers to act in support of PA priorities.

How to apply

Experience in the performing the duties listed above, including coordinating across organizations with 501c(3), 501 c(4) and Political Action Committee (PAC) status.
Experience in computer skills: word processing; databases; Publisher; spreadsheets, Quickbooks. Nationbuilder experience a plus.
Experience using social media to organize.
