ORGANIZATION DESCRIPTION:
Inspire Youth Project (IYP), formerly Rise n’ Shine is a 501(c)3 nonprofit, founded by Janet Trinkaus in 1988. IYP envisions a world where young people are empowered to make choices that keep them safe and enrich their lives. Their mission is to provide the missing social and emotional links for youth impacted by HIV/AIDS or childhood trauma. IYP offers programs to support and promote the emotional and social health of children; inspiring young children and teens to maintain hope in the midst of adversity and loss, while empowering and giving them the tools to attain their dreams.

IYP SITUATIONAL ANALYSIS:
Sadly, in 2013 Janet Trinkaus, IYP’s inspirational founder lost her three year battle with cancer and passed away. In the two years since her passing, the organization has experienced a period of leadership transition and uncertainty. The board has renewed its commitment and is focused on organizational governance to support the core programs. Working together the board and staff are refining the mission, vision and values to provide clear direction. With a history of strong programming, event participation, volunteer support and unexplored fundraising opportunities, the staff and board of IYP are confident the organization is well positioned for growth.

PURPOSE & ROLE :
IYP seeks an Executive Director who is an experienced non-profit leader with core passion to help youth impacted by HIV/AIDS or childhood trauma. The ideal candidate will be a strategic leader with proven success in board development, fiscal management, fund development, staff and volunteer management and possess the following experiences, skills and attributes to guide the organization into its next phase:

Experienced leader able to positively lead a team and constituents through transformational change
Extensive interpersonal and relationship-building skills,
Strong business acumen and a commitment to helping staff realize their professional potential
Strong fiscal management with extensive experience in non profit infrastructure
Proven record of successful fund development
Experience in youth development and understanding of how trauma affects development
Possess a keen eye for potential to improve quality and impacts
Strong work ethic
Posses core values of honesty, integrity, sincerity, patience, perseverance, and humor

KEY AREAS OF RESPONSIBILITY:

Leadership & Communication : Oversee all aspects of IYP operations and work closely with Board of Directors to further initiatives outlined in strategic plan. Effectively communicate IYP’s mission, vision and values with members and vested stakeholders throughout the community.

Staff Development & Supervision : Provide leadership and staff supervision and development to a team of 4 full-time employees
Financial & Operational Management: Ensure financial viability of the organization moving from an events based income model to a traditional nonprofit model with various fundraising strategies employed.

Board Relations: Provide staff support and leadership to Board of Directors. Focus on board development, cultivating new board members and developing effective committees, or task forces, to support board objectives. Clearly communicate IYP financial and operational status to board.

Organizational Development : Strengthen organizational systems and infrastructure to support the overall growth and further mission reach.

Fund Development: In partnership with the Board of Directors, implement a strategic fund development plan. While IYP has a history of strong event participation, traditional fundraising opportunities have not been fully explored.

REQUIRED CRITERIA:

Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent
Three or more years in organizational management, preferably in the nonprofit sector
Passion for the Mission of Inspire Youth Project
Experience in Managing full and part time staff
Experience working with policy volunteers
Experience in reading and translating financial information
Had responsibility for a budget size of $500,000 or more
