Director of Innovation – SEIU 775 – Seattle, WA

Reports to: Director Growth Department

Not included in the Staff Union Bargaining Unit

Location: Based out of SEIU 775 HQ (Seattle)

Summary: SEIU 775 represents 43,000 home care and nursing home workers across Washington and Montana. SEIU 775 is a leader in developing innovative solutions to develop worker power in the 21st century economy. We do so through a combination of bargaining, public policy, building coalitions, employer relations, and organizational development. The Director of Innovation will manage the development of new models long-term care that can maximize the benefit to consumers and workers. The Director of Innovation may also assist on other projects outside of long-term care industry.

Principal duties and responsibilities include:

Develop and oversee project plans around long-term care reform, including business development, public policy, and coalition work

Manage team of staff and consultants, including Medicaid/home care experts and business development experts

Maintain tight project timelines in a constantly changing environment

Provide regular reports to SEIU 775 Growth Director and SEIU 775 Secretary-Treasurer

Required Job Qualifications:

Experience directing major projects, preferably that combine business development and public policy

Experience managing staff and/or consultants

Strong personal planning, motivation, and time management skills and attention to detail

Excellent coalition building and interpersonal skills

Ability to work with people from diverse backgrounds/cultures

Excellent oral and written communication skills

Master’s degree in business, public policy, or a related field

Ability to exercise discretion and independent judgment

A commitment to building a 21st-Century workers movement, to risk-taking, and to the mission, vision, and values of SEIU

Preferred Job Qualifications:

Familiarity with business development or start-ups and ability to work with employer-side partners

Knowledge of the health care industry, and preferably Medicaid and/or home care

Familiarity with emerging technology relating to new models of employment and work

Experience with legislative and public policy advocacy

Compensation: Salary and benefits are set by collective bargaining agreement. Starting salary ranges from $84,500, DOE. Benefits include fully employer-paid family health, dental and vision insurance, life insurance, a generous leave package, an ORCA Transit Card, fully employer-paid pension (defined benefit plan), an optional 401(K) plan (no employer match), cell phone allowance, and other benefits outlined in the policies of SEIU 775 and the staff union contract.
