About the Club: The Variety Boys & Girls Club is a trusted nonprofit organization that has served at‐risk children of Boyle Heights since 1949. For 66 years, the Club has provided a refuge for children who daily struggle with real life circumstances of poverty, under‐resourced neighborhoods, low educational attainment, gang violence, substance abuse and poor health outcomes. These are some of the most impoverished kids in some of the toughest neighborhoods and Club Staff works to ensure that our programming meets kids where they are in their cognitive development as well as provides for basic needs (e.g., nutrition) so they are ready to learn. It can be a complex journey to educate these children but the Club believes that all children can learn at high levels if given the opportunity to excel.
