Development Officer – Los Angeles – Orangutan Foundation International

Overview
The Development Officer performs a wide range of activities and tasks to ensure the operation of OFI’s primary administrative office in a manner that fully supports the organization’s conservation mission and growth. Coordinates fundraising/development strategical planning, implementation, and reporting work. Acts as point-person for independent fundraisers and OFI’s sister organizations, helping to coordinate and organize collective fundraising efforts.

This position is based in the west Los Angeles / Santa Monica area, California.

This is a full time position (40 hours per week) with a salary commensurate with experience starting at $35,000 to $45,000.

Job Responsibilities
1. Fundraising Programs
Coordinate all major and strategic communications, including writing Direct Appeal Letters, Press Releases, targeted eBlasts, campaign advertisements.
Spearheads efforts to identify and secure new and innovative funding sources.
Develops new campaigns and fundraising programs.
Oversees preparation and production of promotional mailings, printed pieces, and web communications to support existing and new fundraising programs.
2. Records and Analysis

Assist in maintaining DonorSnap database, ensuring that it is at all times current and up-to-date.
Be able to generate financial analyses and mailing lists as needed.
Produce regular detailed reports about the organization’s fundraising operations and field projects, including Annual Reports for both internal use and public dissemination.
3. Events and Donor Relations

Works closely with the team to plan, coordinate, facilitate, and arrange events for promotional and fundraising purposes.
Acts as facilitator and representative of OFI as appropriate.
Encourage donors’ continued involvement and sense of participation/involvement with OFI’s work, as appropriate.
4. Liaison with Institutions, Fundraising Partners, and Sister Organizations

Conference Calls with field-based team members as necessary (may involve night/weekend flex hours).
Applies for foundation grants under the guidance/direction of OFI’s President, produces reports and updates regarding the use of foundation and/or grant funds in field operations.
Develops relationships with fundraising partners, corporate sponsors, etc and maintains existing relationships.
Communicates with and assists OFI’s sister organizations.
5. Be familiar with all OFI stakeholders and office-based process

Facilitate communication between various OFI stakeholders as needed.
Assist with all other office functions. Be familiar with all of the day-to-day clerical and administrative tasks in order to step in as needed.

Requirements
3-5 years’ experience working in development/fundraising for a non-profit.
Experience organizing fundraising events.
Grant writing and application experience preferred.
Excellent computer skills; proficient and creative in use of Microsoft Word and Excel.
Experience with database programs preferred.
Strong writing skills. Experience with proofreading, ability to identify and correct grammatical errors.
Enjoy working with people, highly personable, friendly, and diplomatic. Works equally well independently and as a team-member.
Ability to multi-task and to pursue many projects in parallel.
Passionate about conservation, animal welfare and environmental activism. Understands OFI’s mission, history, goals, ongoing projects, campaigns, field operations, and peripheral issues.
