Development Director – Berkeley Ballet Theater – Berkeley, CA

Berkeley Ballet Theater, a 35-year old East Bay arts organization, is seeking a dynamic and experienced Development Director to lead its resource development work and implement both a short and long-term fundraising strategy.

The Development Director will work closely with the Board of Directors and Executive Director to conceive and implement an annual fundraising plan, including donor identification; grant writing, special event planning and execution, annual fund solicitation, corporate sponsorships, major gift, and donor stewardship. The Development Director will also lead the organization’s capital campaign to build its new home in Downtown Berkeley.

PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Develops strategic fundraising plan for presentation to BBT leadership and works with BBT leadership to determine fundraising priorities and implement plan.
Responsible for the core operations of the development program including fundraising budget, donor development and stewardship, and special events
Provides ongoing reporting to the Board of Directors, Executive Director, and volunteers as determined by Board.
Participates actively in the management of BBT as a member of the management team
Leads all efforts of the capital campaign, including providing clear direction to members of the campaign cabinet
Builds and maintains the BBT donor constituencies including, but not limited to parents, alumni/ae, foundations, and corporations
Develops and manages BBT’s donor database system, and gift acknowledgement practices to industry standard
Provides complete transparency to Board regarding donor prospect and cultivation
Oversees compliance with gift acceptance policies and procedures
Responsible for timely submission of grant proposals to foundations and maintains a system for submitting reports for grants received
Plans and executes BBT fundraising events
Initiates appropriate correspondence, agendas, and minutes
Stays current in the field by attending conferences and other relevant training
Other duties and projects as assigned

QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED:

Education: Bachelor’s degree

Experience: Minimum of 5 years non-profit development experience with at least 2 years in arts non-profit management or development, preferably in the East Bay. Record of increasing responsibility with hands-on grant writing, donor acquisition, event management, database management, and Capital Campaign responsibilities.

Special Skills: Outstanding written and oral communication skills; analytical, detail orientation; strong organizational, time management and interpersonal skills; self-starter with entrepreneurial spirit; and enthusiasm for the work of Berkeley Ballet Theater as a place where all can dance.
