Benefits Manager – Tides – San Francisco, CA

Position Summary:

Responsible for administration of employee benefits in all Tides Network and Tides Center. As needed, provides special guidance and assistance to all employees on various employee benefit plans. Surveys industry and/or community to determine Tides’ competitive position in employee benefits. Develops, recommends, and implements, new, or modified plans and employee benefit policies, and administration of existing plans. Develops cost control procedures to assure maximum coverage at the least possible cost to company and employee.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Evaluates and compares existing benefits with those of other employers by analyzing other plans, surveys, and other sources of information. Plans, develops, and/or participates in area and industry surveys. Analyzes results of surveys and develops specific recommendations for review by management.
Develops census data and solicits insurance companies for quotations. Evaluates quotations and makes recommendations to management. Develops company cost information for new plans and makes recommendations to management concerning sharing of cost between employer and employee.
Develops benefit information and statistical and census data for actuaries, insurance carriers, and management.
Handles benefit inquiries and complaints to ensure quick, equitable, courteous resolution. Maintains contact in person, and by phone or mail, with hospitals, physicians, insurance companies, employees, and beneficiaries to facilitate proper and complete utilization of benefits for all employees.
Maintains benefit records in ADP Workforce Now and resolves benefit information systems inquiries.
Reconciles benefits accounts by preparing and approving billing statements.
Develops and executes communication strategies to ensure all parties are fully informed of benefit plan changes and improve employee understanding, and foster appreciation of the value of all Tides-sponsored benefit programs and services to employees through employment life cycle, including new hires, open enrollment, retirement and respond to day-to-day issues.
Conducts employee meetings and arranges for enrollment of employees in optional plans. Conducts employee benefit seminars for local personnel.
Manage all third-party vendor relationships to ensure efficient and effective administration of all benefit plans. Continually evaluate internal and external administrative processes.
Ensure compliance with statutory rules associated with benefit plans, including but not limited to, ERISA, PPACA, 409(A), SEC, FLSA, FMLA, and HIPAA, as well as state regulations as appropriate
Assures that all plan related documents are accurate and up to date (SPD, employee handbook, policy manual, and etc.)

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

Thorough knowledge of qualified and non-qualified pension and 403b/401k regulations along with analytical, critical thinking, statistical and problem solving skills in order to ensure compliance, consistent interpretation and application of plan as well as in-depth understanding of retirement calculations; thorough knowledge of other related benefit plan designs and administration
Demonstrated success in building and maintaining relationships with third-party vendors, Sr. Management, HR partners and employees at all levels
Strong organization and time management skills necessary to meet agreed deadlines
Solid computer skills, proficiency in Microsoft Office and Google Docs; understanding of HR systems and interfaces with third-party vendors
Strong communication, presentation and interpersonal skills; excellent planning & organizational skills

Education and Experience:

Bachelor’s degree in HR or equivalent education/experience
Certified Benefits Professional (CBP), Certified Compensation Professional (CCP) or Certified Employee Benefits Specialist (CEBS) designation preferred

Experience Requirements:

Minimum of 8 years experience managing all facets of U.S. employee benefit plans, including health and welfare as well as qualified and non-qualified pension and 403b/401k plans including plan administration, reporting and compliance. Some exposure to International benefits and Mergers & Acquisitions integration will be preferred
Minimum of 3 years managing outsourced administrative vendors, to include RFP development, vendor selection and project management of implementation/transition
