Associate Director of Development – Marin Agricultural Land Trust – Point Reyes Station, CA

Marin Agricultural Land Trust is a member-supported, nonprofit organization created in 1980 by a coalition of ranchers and environmentalists to permanently protect Marin County farmland. Some of the Bay Area’s most highly acclaimed dairy products, grass-fed meats and organic crops are produced on farmland protected by MALT conservation easements, which total more than 47,000 acres on 75 family farms and ranches.

The Associate Director of Development is a full-time position primarily responsible for managing development operations and administration, setting strategy and achieving contribution goals for MALT’s $1.9 million Annual Fund, and overseeing planned giving. Additional responsibilities include managing some grant writing for non-agency grants and managing the corporate giving program. The Associate Director of Development reports to the Director of Development and supervises the Annual Fund Associate, the Database Manager and the Development Associate. This person serves on the Management Team.

Specific duties include:

Direct management and administration of development operations.
Responsible for creating the organization’s annual fund strategy and setting goals for a robust membership and corporate giving program.
Coordinate all annual fund gift solicitation activities.
Oversee planned giving program, including meeting with donors and prospects.

Research and write non-agency grant applications and grant reports in collaboration with applicable staff. Responsible for stewardship of foundation donors and prospects.
Prepare the annual development team budget, update forecasts throughout the year and ensure that the team is meeting income and expense goals.
Oversee the database and other software needs for the department.
Participate in special events and projects as needed.

QUALIFICATIONS

At least three years of experience in the direct management and administration of development operations.
Deep experience with Raiser’s Edge and the management of annual giving/membership database programs required.
Evidence of ability to generate revenue growth in annual giving programs.
Experience in the direct management of staff in a goal-driven environment.
High integrity, as well as self-directed, high-performance individual who has demonstrated initiative and achievement against goals.
Must possess excellent organizational skills, polished public manner, and ability to work well with board members, donors, volunteers, and staff. Excellent writing and communications skills are essential.
Demonstrated proficiency in Windows operating systems, Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.).
Bachelor’s degree required.
