Program Associate – Jewish World Watch – Encino, CA

ABOUT JEWISH WORLD WATCH: Jewish World Watch (JWW) works to combat genocide and mass atrocities through education, advocacy and grantmaking programs. JWW currently supports programs in eastern Chad for Darfuri refugees, and eastern Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC). Additionally, JWW raises awareness and advocates on other conflict areas and the prevention of mass atrocities more broadly. POSITION SUMMARY: Reporting to the Director of Policy and Programs, the Program Associate will provide support and contribute to all facets of JWW’s advocacy and grantmaking programs.

Duties and Responsibilities:

Advocacy:

Support the Director of Policy and Programs in developing and managing relationships with various coalitions, working groups, and key partners
Support the Director of Policy and Programs and lead in the development of advocacy campaigns, grassroots actions, advocacy asks, policy priorities and objectives, etc.
Create action alerts, blog posts, fact sheets, educational materials, and other content necessary to drive JWW’s education and advocacy work
Research conflict areas, track legislation and Administration policy on issues related to the work of JWW
Provide situation briefing updates for staff, community members, and committees/Board
Assist in training adult and youth activists in various advocacy actions and best practices
Assist in the planning and facilitation of various events including The Lemkin Summit to End Genocide and Mass Atrocities held in Washington, DC.
Work with the Communications Associate to develop advocacy related emails, social media posts, and various publications
Translate situational and project updates from partners into advocacy engagement opportunities
Develop engaging presentations and speak at various community, school, and faith-based venues
Assist in the recruitment and supervision of interns and fellows

Grantmaking:

Support the Director of Policy and Programs in overseeing the grantmaking portfolio, disbursement and reporting schedule, and communicating with grantees when needed
Support the Director of Policy and Programs in researching new partnership engagement opportunities and vetting proposals and concept notes
Work with the Director of Policy and Programs to strengthen monitoring and evaluation, capacity building, and reporting structure of grantee partners
Translate situational and project updates from partners into a usable format for public consumption via blog posts, social media, material development, speaking engagements, etc.
Assist in organizing trips to DRC

Additional Responsibilities:

As we operate in a small team environment, the Program Associate will support other team members as needed with various administrative and programmatic tasks

Qualifications:

Minimum bachelor’s degree in international relations, peace studies, genocide studies, political science, Africa studies, or related field
Two years of work experience in advocacy, community organizing, or grantmaking strongly preferred
Knowledge of JWW conflict areas (Sudan, South Sudan, DRC, Great Lakes Region), genocide, atrocities prevention, and human rights strongly preferred
Experience with advocacy: engaging with members of Congress, monitoring and analyzing legislation, developing campaigns, etc.
Excellent writing and research skills, ability to provide summaries of complex issues for diverse audiences
Excellent public speaking skills
Ability to work in a fast-paced, team oriented environment, which requires constantly multi-tasking and juggling simultaneous projects and deadlines
Interest in genocide and atrocities prevention
Fluency in French is not required but would be highly welcomed
Experience working in Central/East Africa preferred
Proficient in MS Office products (Word, Excel, PowerPoint), Google Apps, and various social media platforms
Flexibility to work evenings and weekends

Compensation:
Commensurate with experience.

JWW is closed for major secular and Jewish holidays.

Occasional domestic travel required.
This is a salaried, exempt position based in Los Angeles.
