LEAP Program Coordinator – Peace for the Streets by Kids from the Streets – Seattle, WA

PSKS mission is to support homeless and at risk youth and young adults to become empowered to lead positive and self-sufficient lives. We rely of the voices of the youth we serve to guide our work.

The goal of the Lasting Employment Advancement Program is to implement, improve and expand internship and employment opportunities for homeless youth and young adults. This position will work closely with the staff as a team member and is supervised by the Executive Director. PSKS is a grass roots/bottom up highly collaborative organization with the voice of the youth serving as our guide.

Externally, the position will work closely with for-profit and non-profit businesses in the Capitol Hill area to ensure sustainable employment and/or intern opportunities for our participants. Some key collaborators will be the Capitol Hill Chamber of Commerce and the Greater Seattle Business Association (GSBA).

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

Recruit and hire interns ensuring the right fit for both PSKS and the interns
Work collaboratively with participants and staff to incorporate interns into PSKS internal structures
In collaboration with Executive Director provide orientation and ongoing supervision of interns

Assist interns to build employment skills through employment readiness workshops (resumes, cover letters, interview skills, etc.).

Survey CHCC, GSBA and other community organizations for best approaches to efficiently place interns in sustainable employment/internships
Identify likely business partners, create and implement outreach plan and strategies and coordinate outreach to local business; LEAP interns will be included in outreach planning and development
Create tracking systems and ongoing relationship cultivation with local businesses
Create clear communications package for external partners in conjunction with Development Director including traditional and social media
Report on program deliverables

APPLICANT REQUIREMENTS

One to two years of experience working with non-profits and/or college degree in related field.
Be comfortable working with a highly diverse population.
Be comfortable with occasional conflicts between participants
Ability to work well with a diversity of roles and perspectives.
Strong collaboration skills and ethics.
A passion for making a difference in the lives of homeless youth and a commitment to social justice as the cornerstone of social change work.
Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.
A robust sense of humor
Ability to articulate mission in a compelling manner in small and large groups
Excellent organizational abilities and project and time management skills.
Ability to be flexible and adapt to changing workload.
Proficiency with MS office programs including Outlook, Word, & Excel.
