GENERAL JOB DESCRIPTION

Lead Domestic Violence Advocate – Is the lead advocate within the agency’s Domestic Violence Program. The Lead Advocate supervises student interns and agency volunteers assigned to the DV Program. Services are provided in a progressive non-profit agency committed to serving individuals that are at risk or have experienced domestic violence.

Specific Education, Certification and Skill Requirements:
Bachelors Degree in Social Services, Social Work ( equivalent combination of education and/or work experience may be considered). Applicant must have completed 40 or 56 hour Domestic Violence/Sexual Assault training recognized by the state of California. Verification of training completion is required. Applicant must complete the 40 hour Domestic Violence Advocate training within the first three months of employment.

Job Title –Lead Case Manager/DV Advocate

Immediate Opening for a skilled Case Manager to work as part of our agency’s team. SAFE Alternatives for Everyone is seeking qualified individuals to join our team of professionals committed to assisting families impacted by Family Violence. A successful candidate must possess 3-5 years experience working with individuals and families affected by domestic violence. Must have a strong desire to provide critical/crisis based case management services to domestic violence victims and their families. Additionally, we are seeking an individual that has excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to problem solve.

Qualifications: Ability to take initiative; work independently with minimal guidance while also working as a member of our agency’s overall team. A successful candidate must be able to work interchangeably between (2) sites while maintaining excellent customer service with individuals accessing S.A.F.E. and the Southwest Family Justice Center Services. Ability to advocate assertively on the victim’s behalf while keeping communication with clients confidential. Must have a clear understanding on the dynamics of abusive relationships, and the psychological impact of battering on victims and children. Ability to understand, be sensitive to, and have empathy for others. Ability to develop trusting empowering relationships and to work effectively with individuals and families from diverse racial, ethnic, and socioeconomic backgrounds. Must be able to intervene in crisis situations, using sound professional judgment, ethical practice and common sense. Ability to work cooperatively with Family Justice Center partners and other community agencies on behalf of victims. Must have basic knowledge of the family court system. Must have excellent computer skills/literacy. Must be willing to submit to background investigation. Must have reliable transportation, driver’s license, and car insurance.

Responsibilities:

Perform confidential needs assessment, case management, and appropriate referrals. Advocate for victims within multiple systems including Criminal Justice, Family Law, Law Enforcement, Child Protective Services, and Social Services. Complete thorough safety needs and risk assessments with client. Train, coordinate and provide domestic violence education to student interns and volunteers.

Case Manage clients at the Southwest Family Justice Center. Complete (TRO) Temporary Restraining Order paperwork with clients, meet with walk-in and scheduled clients. Work cooperatively with other agencies and individuals involved with the client to ensure comprehensive service delivery to the victim and children. Maintain accurate documentation on every contact with clients. Keep information related to the clients completely confidential, as requested by clients and dictated by professional ethics. Facilitate Domestic Violence Education Groups on an ongoing basis. Complete client safety planning and threat assessment via a National on-line assessment tool. Complete initial intake and orientation with families upon admittance to (EHF). Explain resources available to the victim and children to assist them towards becoming survivors. Provide court support to victims, as needed. Provide case management services to families placed in the (EHF). Maintain client files and ensure that all appropriate documentation is represented in each file and cases must be maintained in audit condition. Responsible for case presentations during Case Review Meetings. Provide statistical information on all cases assigned. Attend trainings and community education, as required. Provide ongoing communication with direct supervisor regarding caseload. Complete other duties as required and assigned.
