Director – MA Voter Table – Boston, MA

Job Summary:

The MA Voter Table seeks a Director to begin work in early 2016. The Director should be a leader committed to transformational, progressive social change led by low-income people and people of color. The Director will lead the Table, which is made up of community-based organizations from low-income communities and communities of color across the state. Through developing and nurturing relationships between and among Table partners, the Director is responsible for: developing a coordinated program plan; promoting the participation of partners in this plan; fundraising to support the plan; overseeing the provision of resources, technical assistance and training for Table partners; innovating and evaluating best practices; and managing staff and contractors. The Director is responsible for the daily operations of the Table. She or he is ultimately accountable to all Table partners.

DUTIES:

Develop and maintain partner participation and strengthen collaborative relationships within the Table, including: Keep partners informed of all Table undertakings, organize and facilitate partner meetings, hold partners accountable for fulfilling their commitments to the Table, encourage participation in all Table activities, help build relationships between partners, facilitate collective decision-making processes, and foster the growth of the Table.

Oversee statewide coordination of partners’ civic engagement efforts, including: Develop strategic plans for Table’s electoral and issue campaigns, track partners’ goals and progress, produce voter education materials for partners, support collaboration between partners, and collaborate with leaders of Table-supported campaigns and allies.

Provide analysis & strategic guidance, including: Analyze voter registration and voting trends of the Rising Electorate, as well as the demographic and policy environment, and coordinate the development of the Table’s electoral and issue campaign strategies in light of this analysis.

Coordinate and deliver one-on-one and collective training for partners, including: Development of individual field plans and strategies; voter targeting; leadership development and organization building; utilizing best practices for civic engagement; message development and delivery; and data-driven civic engagement using the VAN database and other data tools.

Oversee Table’s financial, administrative and management needs, including: Facilitate the Table Steering Committee, supervise Table staff, maintain the Table’s budget and oversee financial accounting, and collaborate with State Voices around reporting and planning, national convenings and monthly calls, etc.

Take responsibility for all Table fundraising needs, including: Prepare grant proposals for, meet with, and submit reports to Table funders; find new fundraising prospects, including individual and institutional donors; and cultivate current and new funder relationships.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Commitment to building power for low income communities and communities of color
Community organizing experience, including leadership development in low-income communities
Grassroots electoral campaign experience, including:
Data-driven campaign strategy, metrics and evaluation, in particular using the Voter Activation Network (VAN)
Understanding of best practices in civic engagement, including voter registration, education and mobilization strategies
Grassroots policy advocacy experience
Experience and skill in developing political strategy and leading shared strategy processes
Experience and skill in coalition-building, including facilitation of group process, engaging organizations, and strengthening collaborative efforts
Experience and skill in training, technical assistance, and leadership development.
Experience working in multicultural communities, and with individuals with a wide range of life experience
Understanding of and experience with successful fundraising strategies
Knowledge of nonprofit management, including experience with board of director
functions, accounting and internal operations.
Supervision and management experience
Ability to manage several tasks/projects concurrently and prioritize work effectively
Strong writing skills
