Development / Outreach Coordinator – Florence Immigrant and Refugee Rights Project – Phoenix, AZ

The Florence Immigrant and Refugee Rights Project (www.firrp.org) is a non-profit organization providing free legal services to the 4,000 men, women, and unaccompanied children detained in Arizona on any given day for immigration removal proceedings. The Project was founded in 1989 and is currently comprised of 36 staff members, based in Florence, Phoenix, and Tucson. The Project is nationally known for providing high quality legal services and supports initiatives for national change in immigration law and policy.

Development & Outreach Coordinator Position

The Florence Project seeks a Development & Outreach Coordinator, to assist the Project with raising awareness and funds to support our programs. The Coordinator will work under the direct supervision of the Executive Director and in partnership with the Project’s staff and Board of Directors. The desired start date for this position is June 2015.

The main duties of the Development & Outreach Coordinator are (in addition to other related tasks):

Individual Donor Cultivation & Outreach
Support the Executive Director and Board of Directors with cultivating individual donors by:
Researching new prospective donors and donor communities.
Identifying and scheduling community outreach opportunities, to generate support for the Project.
Present to community, school, and church groups about the Project’s work, and recruit staff and volunteers to present, as well.
Coordinate donor thank you communications.
Organize direct mail appeal letters and newsletter mailings.
Work with Office Coordinator to manage donor database and make sure that records are consistent and accurate.
Fundraising and Events Planning
In collaboration with the Executive Director and the Board of Directors, create and execute the organization’s annual fundraising plan, including individual donor and foundation outreach and annual events.
Plan and carry out fundraising events throughout the year.
Communications
Develop new outreach documents and resources as needed.
Proactively collect client testimonials and photos, and prepare program updates on an ongoing basis for donor communication and outreach.
Manage the Project’s website and social media accounts.
Draft press releases and manage publicity for the Project as necessary, in collaboration with the Executive Director.
Coordinate and create content for the Project’s biannual newsletter.
Screen and respond to media requests, in collaboration with the Executive Director.
Collaborate with advocacy partners and community groups as appropriate.
Grant Research, Writing, and Reporting
Assist with grant writing, research, submissions, and reporting.

The position is based in our Phoenix office, with travel to our Florence office approximately one day a week. Occasional travel throughout the state is required. Starting salary is $35,000 with some flexibility, depending on experience. Benefits include medical, dental, and vision insurance, as well as generous vacation and leave policies and a limited mileage reimbursement policy.

Requirements

B.A. or B.S. degree or comparable experience required. Minimum of 2-3 years experience in non-profit fundraising, project planning, coordination and management experience preferred.
Outstanding communication and writing skills.
Experience with marketing, social media and graphic design a plus.
Ability to juggle multiple tasks, show initiative, work independently, and problem solve creatively. We seek individuals who enjoy working in a collaborative, high volume, and energetic work environment who are flexible team players with a sense of humor. You must have zealous support for the Project’s mission.
Highly organized with a strong attention to detail and ability to complete tasks independently.
Fluency in Spanish a plus.
