Information Services Analyst – California Legislative Analyst’s Office – Sacramento, CA

General Description

The Legislative Analyst’s Office (LAO) seeks an Information Systems Analyst (ISA) to join its Information Services section, which develops and maintains all information technology systems for the office and provides hands-on support for the production of reports and other office activities. The ISA performs an array of technical duties, including designing, developing, and maintaining database applications; providing general desktop and server support; and assisting in the publication of material to the website. As a member of a small team, the ISA has to demonstrate professionalism, collegiality, initiative, and a willingness to help where needed.
Duties, Responsibilities, and Minimum Qualifications

To support the office, the ISA needs to possess the skills and knowledge necessary to perform a wide range of duties. These include:

Designing and writing database applications, as well as learning new programming languages and frameworks as needed.
Creating elegant, functional user interfaces for applications.
Providing desktop and server support in a Windows environment.
Independently researching new technologies and industry trends.
Writing and speaking clearly, with the ability to relate technical issues to a broad audience.
Communicating openly and being able to accept and provide feedback.
Identifying problems and issues and proposing workable solutions based on office priorities.

A Bachelor’s degree is required for this position, but a Master’s degree is preferred. The ideal candidate for this position would possess a combination of experience and education necessary to perform the duties and meet the responsibilities of the position.

Compensation

The salary range for this position is $5,067 to $6,789 per month and will depend on the experience and qualifications of the candidate selected. The LAO also provides a comprehensive package of health, vision, dental, and retirement benefits. In addition, the LAO provides vacation, sick leave, compensatory timeoff for overtime above a specified level, and about 13 holidays per year.
Background Information

The LAO has served the Legislature and the people of California since 1941. The office currently employs 42 analytical and 11 support staff. Staff of the LAO are hired and promoted on a merit basis and are exempt from civil service. The LAO enjoys a national reputation for the quality and nonpartisanship of its analyses and staff.
