Children’s Education Program Manager – Seattle Tilth Association

Seattle Tilth is an environmental education organization that seeks to inspire and educate people to safeguard our natural resources while building an equitable and sustainable local food system. Our garden programs teach and empower children and adults to grow and harvest food in a manner that builds a healthy, thriving community.

The Children’s Education Program Manager is responsible for ensuring success for all aspects of the children’s education programs. This includes developing and managing program work plans and budget, supervising staff, developing, scheduling and teaching classes and workshops and standardizing curriculum across the program. In addition, s/he will collaborate with other Seattle Tilth departments to promote children’s garden activities and enrollment. Finally, the Children’s Education Program Manager will support and develop relationships with schools, preschools, and other youth-serving organizations. About 60% of the program manager’s time will be spend in program delivery and 40% in program management. This position reports to the Director of Garden Programs and supervises Children’s Education Coordinators.

The successful candidate will have experience with managing educational programs, organic gardening, teaching in a non-traditional setting and developing curriculum. A history of successfully working with people from a variety of racial, cultural and economic backgrounds is important as is experience working with school districts, administrators and teachers. Required qualifications also include excellent communication skills, self-direction and strong organizational and computer skills.

This position requires occasional evening and weekend work as well as a reliable personal vehicle to transport self and other materials to education and outreach locations. Compensation is DOE.
