Training Director – Amigos de las Americas, Santa Clara Valley Chapter – Los Gatos, CA

AMIGOS: Amigos de las Américas is a non-profit youth leadership development and community service organization that facilitates international immersion experiences for high school and college students in Latin America. More information about AMIGOS is available at www.AMIGOSLink.org.

Objective: The Training Director has primary responsibility for all aspects of the Chapter training program to prepare high school-aged participants for a successful and meaningful AMIGOS experience. This includes: directing a training staff of high school students, planning and executing a training program November through May, and working collaboratively with the Chapter Board.

Responsibilities: Plans, manages, and evaluates the chapter training program and manages the training team. Develops a training program that teaches the AMIGOS Core Curriculum in a way that is engaging, effective, and includes facilitating the service learning process.

Time Commitment: Usually two meetings per month November – May on Sunday afternoons and weekday evenings. Estimated 350 hours total over the year. Overview:

Summer: Evaluate training program, update local training, and begin recruiting of new volunteers as well as a veteran training team.
Fall: Participate in recruiting and evaluating of potential participants. Attend weekend Training Director Workshop in Houston, and subsequently design a training calendar that communicates Core Curriculum. Train veteran training team. Create sense of community amongst high school student program participants.
Winter: Continue training program and provide any support needed in fundraising efforts.
Spring: Continue management of training program and directly supervising each of the training sessions. Evaluate volunteers’ on training performance and notify chapter board and International Office (IO) of any concerns.

Qualifications: An ability to serve as a guide and mentor to young leaders; utilizes a solution- focused approach; leadership skills; experience with fundamental principles of service learning; positive and fun energy; strong organizational skills; ability to communicate effectively; ability to work well with others and delegate responsibilities; and knowledge of AMIGOS or a willingness to learn the “AMIGOS culture.” Candidate is ideally fluent in Spanish.

Measures of Success: Training Directors will be evaluated on training program development, volunteer management, training team management, professionalism, documentation, risk prevention & management, training evaluation, communication & collaboration, resource management, and service learning. The evaluation process will be conducted at three levels: self-evaluation, chapter leadership and IO Training Department. Detailed expectations for each of these areas are included in the official Chapter Training Director evaluation.
