SPONSORS FOR EDUCATIONAL OPPORTUNITY (SEO), a non-profit organization founded in 1963, is dedicated to preparing students to lead by example in their families, communities, and careers.

SEO Scholars is a free eight-year academic program that gets low-income public high school students to and through college. During high school, SEO Scholars provides over 720 hours of rigorous instruction in English and math on Saturdays, in the summers and after school. Comprehensive academic, personal and career support is provided through college. 100% of SEO Scholars are accepted to four-year colleges, with 95% graduating within 6 years and 80% graduating in 4 years. PURPOSE: The SEO Scholars program is looking for dynamic instructors to lead our 11th grade Scholars in building the skills necessary to navigate the enrichment program, scholarship, and college application processes. The sessions occur on an alternating schedule; every Saturday will be EITHER a Student Advisory Session or a Mentor Session. During Student Advisory Sessions, instructors teach a skill to a classroom of Scholars only, while the main responsibility of instructors in Mentor Sessions is to facilitate mentor/mentee activities that allow Scholars to apply the skills learned with their mentors.

PRIMARY RESPONSBILIITIES:

Lead both Student Advisory and Mentor Sessions that focus on developing skills in important aspects of application processes such as Interviews, Resumes, and Personal Essays
Deliver lessons on specific skills during Student Advisory sessions to a classroom of 11th Grade Scholars
Facilitate group or pair activities and nurture the relationships between mentors and mentees during Mentor Sessions
Be thoroughly prepared to teach each lesson and answer any questions related to those lessons
Be available to arrive by 3:00 PM on Saturdays in the Fall and teach from 3:30 to 5:00 PM

All lessons plans, student handouts, and presentations are provided by the SEO Scholars program. Instructors are expected to deliver all information outlined in the lesson plans provided.

QUALIFICATIONS:

The ideal candidate:

Can skillfully read, interpret, and implement a written lesson plan
Has experience in teaching or delivering presentations to high school-aged students
Has experience leading group activities including team builders and competitions
Has some experience being or working with adult mentors
Has a passion for college access and college preparatory work
Has some knowledge of current college application requirements and processes
Demonstrates strong interpersonal, oral, and electronic communication skills
Seeks to work with a diverse staff and high school student population
Holds a Bachelor’s Degree
