Program Coordinator, College Advising – Sponsors for Educational Opportunity – New York, NY

Sponsors for Educational Opportunity (SEO), a non-profit organization founded in 1963, is dedicated to preparing students to lead by example in their families, communities, and careers. SEO Scholars provides motivated NYC public high school students with an out-of-school academic curriculum, college guidance, and leadership development necessary to gain admission to, and succeed at, competitive colleges and universities.

PURPOSE:

The Program Coordinator for College Advising is responsible for on-going program support for all SEO college admissions work. The position manages student data, using Excel and online programs to connect students with resources and support staff members in college advising. The position also oversees a cohort of 12th grade students, providing 1:1 advising and leading group workshops to ensure that all students apply to competitive colleges with strong applications. The Program Coordinator reports to the Assistant Director, College Admissions.

College Admissions & Preparation

Guide each senior in assigned cohort through the application, admissions, and financial aid processes via monthly, one-on-one meetings.

Review and edit all college essays for each senior in assigned cohort.

Oversee all student applications for select scholarship programs including application essay reviews and edits.

Oversee all operational and logistical processes for 12th grade programming.

Support transition from 11th to 12th grade and from 12th grade to the College Scholars program.

Support the Assistant Director in developing and facilitating workshops and presentations on college admissions topics.

Manage partnerships with standardized test prep providers and maintain internal standardized test prep materials.

Data Collection and Management

Collect and enter college admissions-related data (including scholarships and financial aid information) using Microsoft Excel.

Assist with the management and tracking of college and scholarship applications using the College Planner Pro online portal.

Collect and analyze standardized test scores including ACT and SAT exams.

Collect and enter required information such as transcripts, income, and family information.

Analyze and share key academic and financial student data to support college advising.

Other duties as assigned.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

Bachelor’s Degree

Experience managing complex projects with multiple deadlines

Excellent organizational skills, detail-oriented, ability to multi-task and handle changing priorities

Ability to comfortably present to large audiences (100+ students and/or adults)

Ability to work Saturdays and some nights as dictated by programming needs

Superior written/oral communication skills

Some experience supporting students through the college admissions process (Ongoing training provided)

Ability to effectively edit and provide constructive feedback for student essays

Strong work ethic and high level of professionalism

Highly resourceful and solutions-oriented

Ability to handle sensitive and confidential information with discretion

Must be able to thrive in a fast-paced, entrepreneurial environment

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

Intermediate to advanced Excel skills

Spanish language fluency

Experience working with first-generation college students
