MANAGING ATTORNEY (MA)
PEOPLE WITH DISABILITIES FOUNDATION (PWDF) is a small nonprofit located in San Francisco which focuses on psychiatric and/or developmental disabilities. See www.pwdf.org

Permanent (if part time (4 days, 28 hours), on-site.
Benefits include health insurance, vacation hours, commuter checks, etc., after 90 days. 6 months probation

Duties: The MA will report to the Legal Director and be responsible for the following:
(1) General Supervisory Attorney responsible for supervision of Staff Attorneys, Advocacy Program Manager. Must produce result within 24 months to continue in position.
(2) Oversee Social Security and other benefits laws including representation at all levels through the U.S. Supreme Court; Education; Health Care; Employment; Housing; and related subjects such as multi-culturalism, disability abuse and service animals, media including seminars, e newsletter, training videos, and guest speaking.
(3) Overseeing legal articles, legal aspects of seminars, trainings and guest speaking.
(4) Participation in preparing reports for the meeting of the Board of Directors of PWDF as needed.
(5) HR for all legal staff jobs, including employment.
(6) Administration of contracts relating to all vendors,
(7) Communications, coordination and cooperation with private, public and other non-profit agencies and organizations serving our target population.
(8) Must be able to attend and fulfill duties for occasional liaison meetings, which may be called without due notice.
(9 Monitor income and expenses; prepare reports relating to advocacy side of Agency

Qualifications:

The ideal candidate will be results-oriented, highly organized, and will possess the ability to work and communicate in diverse communities.
Must be reliable, flexible and able to work within administrative deadlines e.g., work with bookkeeper, program managers attorneys and paralegals (legal assistants), financial spreadsheets for year-end audits.

Proficient computer skills required, including Mycase, Word, Excel, PowerPoint and other internet skills required;
Most importantly, candidates must be committed to providing excellent education and advocacy for people with mental/developmental disabilities and must be willing to work enthusiastically toward achieving this goal. Additional qualifications:

Required:
1. Licensed California Attorney, minimum 10 years of relevant; e.g., civil rights nonprofit experience.
2. Good communication skills, ability to write clearly including accuracy for detail with statistics in spread-sheets and other formats.
3. Management experience and a record of achievement in leading teams of people
4. Strong entrepreneurial skills and the ability to establish and build a wide range of key relationships
5. Exceptional communication skills (oral and written)

Highly Preferred:
1. Experience in Social Security, employment, health care, post-secondary education and other disability rights.

Responsibilities:
Program Management Leadership and Support:
Oversee all agency operations and programs, services and activities. Work with staff to ensure that organization’s mission is being carried out in accordance with its strategic plan, and plan for periodic review and modification of programs to meet the continuously changing needs of beneficiaries, and to meet the organization’s goal of fiscal responsibility. Continue to develop collaborative programs with other agencies, and ensure the highest levels of quality and customer service by inspiring staff to perform at their peak. Current affairs and research requirement; responsible for keeping abreast of mental health and disability issues, e.g., gathering health care news articles and governmental agencies reports.

Fiscal Management:
Ensure that the budget supports implementation of the strategic plan. Ensure that the organization’s growth is supported internally in key areas: technology, facilities, human resources, fund development, and communications.

Administrative Management:
Maintain culture that fosters cooperation, open and frequent communications, and teamwork. Develop and foster an environment that maximizes employee growth and retention.
Human Resources:
Recruit, train, manage, and evaluate staff to ensure that resources are maximized and that organizational systems are effective. Manage the day to day development operations; supervise and evaluate development-related staff and contractors.

Compensation: Prorated to $70,000 to $105,000.00 base annual salary, prorated; i.e., to $80,000 for part-time, 4 days (28 hours) per week.
