The Bonner Group seeks an intrepid, politically savvy, and organized grant writer to support the fundraising efforts of the nation’s premier progressive media watchdog, Media Matters for America, with one of the top fundraisers in national politics.

Our clients include some of the most prominent and effective progressive organizations across the country. Over the past 18 years, the Bonner Group has worked for major non-profit organizations, Presidential campaigns, House & Senate campaigns, Gubernatorial campaigns, ballot initiatives, capital campaigns and ‘527’ organizations.

Job Responsibilities

Our full-time grant writer will help us build financial support for Media Matters and its affiliate organizations by:

Writing and editing grant proposals and reports that showcase our successes and our results-driven approach to combatting threats in the media landscape.
Working closely with a dedicated team that includes our Senior Strategic Development Writer, development team, executive staff, and issue team leaders to refine our goals and draw out the stories that best illustrate our work.
Maintaining a sophisticated understanding of all grant-supported projects and programs—including work by Media Matters’ climate change, LGBT equality, and gun violence prevention teams.
Staying current on the latest issues and how our work plays a unique and critical role in shaping the broader political and media landscape.
Performing administrative tasks such as capturing donations in an online database (experience with Salesforce or other donor database software is helpful), tracking and logging grant letters, managing the grants deadline calendar, drafting donor correspondence, and managing mailing projects, and fulfilling donors’ requests.

Qualifications

Excellent writing skills: Strong technical and rhetorical writing skills and demonstrated ability to write under tight deadlines. Must have an eye for detail. Diverse range is critical – must be able to write about the big picture and clearly discuss specific programmatic activities. Must have prior experience writing development materials, such as grant proposals, reports, and letters of inquiry.
Results-driven: Flexible and organized, with a history of getting things done effectively even in the face of obstacles.
Strong political instincts: In-depth knowledge of the media, how information travels through it, and policy issues shaping the news cycle.
Communications-savvy and collaborative spirit: Proven ability to clearly communicate with a variety of personalities and generate buy-in among senior and project staff to move work forward on writing projects.

We are most interested in these four qualities, but anticipate candidates will have at least two to three years of relevant experience.

Compensation

Salary commensurate with experience.
