Education and Outreach Manager – Bladder Cancer Advocacy Network – Bethesda, MD

The Bladder Cancer Advocacy Network’s mission is to increase public awareness about bladder cancer; to advance bladder cancer research; and to provide educational and support services for the bladder cancer community. The Education and Outreach Manager is a full-time essential team member who will implement BCAN’s educational programs and enhance our community presence.

General Duties:

Re-evaluate educational programs for effectiveness and implement new initiatives as needed that better address community needs.

Collaborate with medical professionals to develop a community education plan.

Create/redesign educational literature including one-page fact sheets for specific populations (i.e. veteran’s, women, etc.).

Implement program measurements to gauge community reach and effectiveness.

Create a series of educational pieces to engage the general public to increase awareness of risk factors and promote general health.

Manage and increase interest for the Patient Insight Webinar Series.

Consistently engage focus groups and medical experts to ensure that educational programs include factual information that is well-received by target audiences.

Identify at-risk populations where there may be a barrier to healthcare and increase educational engagement.

Engage community urologists and professional membership organizations to increase BCAN’s profile.

Collaborate with the Community Resource Coordinator to utilize grassroots volunteers for community education.

Collaborate with the Community Resource Coordinator to establish best practices to meet patient needs within the BCAN Connection and Survivor 2 Survivor programs.

Represent the organization at community education and patient-focused events.

Network with other health education professionals to keep on top of trends and best practices in community education.

Manage BCAN’s online presence for mission programs – social media, website, blog posts, etc.

Manage year-round survivorship committee to assess the needs of the patient community.

Qualifications:

A minimum of 5 years’ experience in program development, particularly in the healthcare community.

Experience in evaluating/measuring program impact to address community needs.

Demonstrate an understanding of health literacy guidelines.

Excellent writing skills.

Experience and high comfort level in public speaking.

Bachelor’s degree required; Master’s degree in Public Health or Social Work preferred.
