Development Director – JCC Thurnauer School of Music – Tenafly, NJ

The JCC Thurnauer School of Music, New Jersey’s leading community music school, founded in 1984 and named a “Major Arts Institution” by the New Jersey State Council on the Arts, is seeking a development director.

Open to everyone with a desire to learn music, it offers a rigorous and comprehensive program of lessons in piano, strings, woodwinds, brass, percussion, and voice; musicianship classes; and orchestral, choral, jazz, and chamber ensembles. Serving nearly 6,000 people annually, the Music School also offers master classes with nationally and internationally renowned artists; concerts by the resident Thurnauer Chamber Music Society, distinguished faculty members, and guest artists; and an 18-year, highly-regarded partnership with the Englewood Public School District.

The development director reports to the founding director and works closely with the associate director and entire staff of the Thurnauer School of Music. The school is located within the Kaplen JCC on the Palisades in Tenafly, NJ. Membership at the JCC is not required for admission or financial aid to the school. The position is a full time, 40-hour a week position. Some evenings required.

Responsibilities:

Oversees, researches, and writes government and foundation grant proposals, interim and final reports, and maintains schedule of proposal and report deadlines.
Actively participates in production of annual Gala Benefit Concert
Develops and maintains relationships with grant-makers and other supporters.
Designs and implements a strong corporate and individual giving strategy including annual appeals, sponsorships and stewardship.
Meets regularly with the director to coordinate calendars and development activities.
Works closely with volunteer fundraising and event committees.
Works closely with the marketing department regarding all communications related to the Music School
Works with Director and Associate Director to develop effective Music School Committee
With other senior staff, develops and manages an annual budget of $1.5 million
