Counselor at a Cat Adoption and Education Center – Tree House Humane Society – Chicago, IL

Tree House Humane Society is looking for a Counselor!

Tree House was founded in 1971 with a mission focusing on the rescue, rehabilitation, and adoption of sick, stray, and injured cats. We have grown into a nationally recognized organization, and are leaders in every aspect of cat care, from TNR to behavior advice to transfer programs (to save more cats!) to humane education.

Our counselors are the face of Tree House. They handle all reception duties, as well as all in-house adoptions. They are knowledgeable of, and able to discuss, all cat-related subjects and issues. Additionally, they maintain a major social media presence, and work on creative endeavors to benefit the organization and promote our mission. In 2014, our counseling department doubled in size, as we expanded our services and their reach, and as demand for these services grew. Now, we need another counselor to join our close-knit team!

We NEED a counselor who:

-has customer service experience, including a strong speaking and writing skills

-is able to handle stressful situations with grace and positivity

-is comfortable interacting with the public

-is able to hit the ground running, learning new information quickly, retaining it, and sharing it

-has working knowledge of popular social media platforms, Google docs, word

-can succeed in a fast-paced environment

-is a creative, empathetic, compassionate, and dedicated team player

-is a team player

-believes in, and has a passion for, our mission (and loves cats!) -has a valid driver’s license and a car -has experience with graphic design and marketing/promotion

We would LOVE a counselor who:

-has experience in an animal-related field

-has new and innovative ideas for promoting Tree House

-will take an active roll in training, educating themselves when necessary

In addition to counseling, you would have a focus on offsite events. Some responsibilities include:

-visiting pre-approved offsite adoption locations

-recruiting and training volunteers to manage events at those locations

-participating in our street team efforts to expand our reach

-creating posters and other visual marketing materials for offsite events
