Boys /Girls Club Tutor – Aspire Education Project – San Francisco, CA

WHAT WE NEED

Aspire Education Project is a non-profit that serves families needing high-quality, professional, one-on-one tutoring services. We are seeking experienced, communicative, academically-strong tutors interested in working one-on-one and in small groups with elementary, middle, and high school students at the Boys and Girls Clubs of San Francisco (BGCSF).

Responsibilities include the following:

Tutor small groups of 1-5 students that meet on a weekly basis in English and S.T.E.M. subjects
Evaluate student progress by administering Aspire student surveys three times per year
Collaborate with Boys and Girls Club Staff partners and community stakeholders
Inspire students to become lifelong learners
Help students grow their confidence and motivation to succeed
Record session notes in web-based system at the end of each tutoring session

Our BGCSF tutors work at eight Clubhouses and one school-based site, and will most likely work two-hour sessions between 3:00pm and 7:00pm Monday through Thursday; the exact schedule is still being finalized. This program runs from September 7, 2015 to May 20, 2016, with breaks for SFUSD school holidays. Compensation for BGCSF tutors is $25-$30 depending on experience.

Qualified applicants will have: previous tutoring experience, ability to demonstrate and teach strong study habits to students; strategies for active tutoring; ability to build rapport with students and families; strong academic subject-knowledge; the ability to work well and communicate with a variety of people including teenagers, parents and adults; a demonstrable interest in educational equity and/or social justice, and professionalism and organization in conduct. (Special Plus: specific subject strengths, flexible schedule. Transportation options an enormous plus)

Aspire also offers other paid and unpaid tutoring positions and occasional other related opportunities.

ABOUT THE BOYS AND GIRLS CLUBS OF SAN FRANCISCO (BGCSF)

BGCSF offers access to professional tutoring, homework help, support for college acceptance, and college scholarships, among many other youth development services. BGCSF aims to provide personalized tutoring and academic support within after-school programs across all clubhouses, and has approached Aspire to provide services in these areas.
