Outdoor Outreach’s mission is to connect youth to the transformative power of the outdoors. We use outdoor activities to promote youth development, health and wellness, civic engagement and environmental conservation and stewardship. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

The After School Programs Manager furthers the success of Outdoor Outreach (OO) by stewarding the vision, mission and values of the organization and by operationalizing the program model. This position is responsible for the overall programmatic development and delivery of OO’s after school programs. In addition to two already existing Adventure Clubs, the Programs Manager will play a crucial role in helping OO launch and manage a new community based Adventure Club in the Diamond District of Southeastern San Diego.

The After School Programs Manager will drive the development and delivery of OO’s after school programs. This includes identifying new funding opportunities, integrating best practice components that strengthen evaluation metrics and outcomes (example: Next Generation Science Standards), identifying and recruiting new after school program partners, developing strong relationships with district and school administrators and recruiting, hiring,training and scheduling a committed team of Program Coordinators, interns and Adventure Club volunteers. In addition to the three Adventure Clubs, the Programs Manager oversees program delivery for 3-4 after school programs who have scheduled programs every 3 weeks (Chaparral HS, Mt. Miguel HS, Monarch Project). Responsibilities also include supporting the Field Program Manager with the training and instructor development needs of OO’s Leadership Program participants, attending and facilitating program model trainings and program outings, and supporting organizational initiatives such as the Outdoor Voices Initiative and Environmental Stewardship Programs.

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS

Applicants must be a minimum of 25 years of age, have a Bachelor’s degree and 3+ years demonstrated experience managing outdoor based field operations and supervising staff. Candidates must have strong leadership and supervisory skills, excellent oral and written communication skills and be able to prioritize multiple tasks. The ability to master the instruction of Outdoor Outreach’s core activities is paramount. He or she must be hard working, self-motivated, team oriented and able to maintain positivity in the face of adversity. Successful candidates must demonstrate a deep commitment and passion for the mission, vision, and values of Outdoor Outreach. Applicants must have a clean driving record and the ability to obtain and maintain California Class B Commercial Driver’s License with Passenger Endorsement. All candidates must successfully pass a Federal Background Check before hire.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

● Master’s Degree or professional certification(s) in Education, Outdoor Education, Public Health or related field.

● First Aid and CPR Certifications (advanced certifications such as Lifeguard, WSI, WAFA are a plus).

● Experience in designing and implementing after school program curriculum and training for after school program staff.

● Ability to analyze staff training needs, develop training curriculums, and deliver effective staff trainings.

● Experience working with diverse populations in an after school program environment.

● Spanish language proficiency is a plus.

KNOWLEDGE / SKILLS

Work Experience

● 3+ years related work experience or equivalent combination.

● Ability to Supervise up to three full time Program Coordinators and provide ongoing coaching and performance evaluation.

● Demonstrated experience planning and implementing staff and participant trainings.

● Applicants should be proficient with Microsoft Word, Excel and Gmail.

● Knowledge and ability to manage a CRM database; experience with Microsoft ACCESS and Salesforce preferred.

● Ability to adapt or modify processes in response to changing circumstances.

● Ability to interpret guidelines and analyze factual information.

● Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.

● Knowledge of personnel management and demonstrated experience managing direct report employees.

● Self-starter with proven project management skills.

WORKING CONDITIONS/PHYSICAL EFFORT:

● Work requires the ability to participate in and facilitate Outdoor Outreach outdoor recreational activities.

● The majority of work is performed in an open office setting with occasional meetings and events offsite.

● Ability to flex one’s schedule based on personal and work related needs.
