Technology Program Manager – SPOON Foundation – Portland, OR

SPOON Foundation, a young and growing global nonprofit, is the first and only organization dedicated to transforming nutrition and care for orphaned and vulnerable children worldwide. UNICEF and Ashoka recognize SPOON for its innovative approach and system-changing work, which has catalyzed national policy change and yielded dramatic improvements in children’s health and development.

As a key member of our program team, the Technology Program Manager is tasked to translate data and technology resources and gaps in a variety of settings, regions, and countries and translate the real world data and needs into technical requirements. The Technology Program Manager will manage the creation of a comprehensive database and user-friendly digital assessment and intervention tool package, including informing content and design, coordinating with all parties, testing the end-product with users, and revising and customizing as needed. This generalist will be organized, strategic, and entrepreneurial. This full-time position is based in Portland, OR and will involve periodic travel to domestic and international program locations. S/he reports to the Deputy Director and is empowered to creatively and strategically shape the impact of SPOON and of the lives of children around the world.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

Product Development

Lead development efforts in all phases of designing, building, and launching of digital nutrition and feeding assessment and intervention package and associated database for use in low-resourced, international settings
Liaise between SPOON’s technical program team and the project partner during the development of a digital platform and associated database
Working with external programmers, consultants, and vendors, lead SPOON’s program team in technology selection, analysis, design, coding, testing, documentation, implementation and data management of innovative digital platform for nutrition and feeding assessment and intervention tools
Coordinate beta testing process, feasibility and effectiveness studies, customization process, launching in international settings, and tech support to in-country end-users of digital platform

Innovation

Identify resources and gaps in current tools and lead development of solutions
Stay informed of latest technologies in feeding, nutrition, and other fields applicable to our beneficiaries
Innovate current and future product and technology program strategies
Collaborate with program leadership team in building, implementing, and evaluating the technology and tools portion of the organization’s operational plan.
Work with SPOON program team to assess and revise product description and model in collaboration with brand consultant and other SPOON departments
Develop and test product and services offerings, and explore sharing options

Program Management

Conduct daily oversight and direction of project resources and activities with third party vendors
Chair regular project meetings to review progress and priorities and prepare status reports
Develop and maintain detailed work plans and budgets and monitor progress against all activities throughout the project lifecycle
Evaluate project status, resource utilization, and implementation of changes to improve the team’s effectiveness

KNOWLEDGE, EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONS

Bachelor’s Degree and at least 7 years of related project management required
PMP or PgMP certification or related advanced degree preferred
Technically proficient to carry out above described duties
Generalist with familiarity with a variety of database and technology platforms
Experience leading the development of products through the entire development cycle
Ability to manage third party vendors
Strong leadership and management skills
International experience in developing countries/low-resource settings preferred
Demonstrates a genuine interest and commitment to the mission of SPOON
Ability to travel 10-15% of time across the United States and internationally
Ability to work in sometimes harsh or uncomfortable low-resource settings
Strong written and verbal communication skills
Solution-oriented approach to facing challenges and ability to work well under pressure, manage multiple deadlines and complex schedules
Entrepreneurial attitude; results driven; and ability to work independently as well as collaboratively
