Teaching Artists – Berkeley Repertory Theatre

Berkeley Repertory Theatre is accepting applications for experienced theatre teaching artists to help deliver its education and community engagement programs in local Bay Area schools from September 2015-June 2016.

Berkeley Rep offers a wide range of free and low-cost theatre-based workshops in over 100 Bay Area schools annually. Aligned with Common Core, workshops integrate theatre, movement, and writing, and impart valuable life skills such as communication, problem solving, collaboration, and creative expression.

Qualifications

At least 5 years’ experience as a teaching artist in theatre
Can follow established curricula
Demonstrates an understanding of the classroom environment in order to develop new curricula
Passionate about empowering students of all ages as playgoers, creators, critical thinkers, communicators, and community members
Knowledgeable about the artistic, historical, and cultural facets of theatre; can guide learners to work creatively with the elements of theatre, as well as conduct theatre games and improvisation activities
Can identify learners’ individual and collective interests, abilities, and needs; envisions clear learning objectives and assessments
Has strong oral and written communication skills; can guide in-depth discussions; is open to exploring how learning in theatre can support literacy development, per the Common Core ELA Standards, and be integrated with other disciplines
Has own transportation to travel to and from school sites and organizations throughout the Bay Area
