AmeriCorps Internship – Teacher’s Aide-Computer Technology (Lennox, CA)

compensation: $1,200/mo. – AmeriCorps Position with a $5,645 education scholarship

Seeking a future teacher/trainer, counselor, and/or human service provider to work with and serve alongside urban youth in the South Los Angeles area. If you like working with young adults (16-24 years of age) to help improve their skills in the subjects listed above and giving back to the community….then, this is a great opportunity for you!

CCEO YouthBuild is looking for a full-time AmeriCorps member (40 hours/week) to serve as Teacher Assistant to our Computer Technology classes. AmeriCorps member will be responsible for assisting our Computer Technology trainer in the following:

1. Teach computer based classes and workshops in subjects such as Introduction to the PC, Introduction to the Internet, How to refurbish a Computer, Introduction to web site design and other social media venues, Basic Computer Coding, other computer related skills marketable to potential employers; 2. Assist with marketing and outreach to community partners, donors, employers and volunteers; 3. Assist trainer with project based/hands-on learning curriculum; 4. Assist students how to refurbish Computers (Windows 7 operating system installed); 5. Assist in the training of students to do small group presentations; 6. Assist with the teaching of intro. to graphic design (e.g., logo, poster, flyer, postcard, poster, etc.); 7. Assist with the teaching of audio production (public service announcements, pod-casts, radio spots); 8. Assist with the teaching of video production (public service announcements, PR pieces, short documentary); and 9. Assist with the performance of other teaching and training that will result in certification and awareness of career requirements and opportunities.

CCEO YouthBuild is an innovative program designed to provide at risk youth aged 16-24 from the Los Angeles area with a High School diploma, Life Skills and Leadership Development training concurrently with vocational and hands-on training in construction & other career pathways. Program participants will assist in building housing units for low and moderate-income families and be involved in providing services to the community through special projects. Upon completion of approximately nine months of training, members will be provided either assistance with job placement or continuation in post-secondary education.

This full time AmeriCorps positions is available to start August 17, 2015.

Knowledge & Skills: Excellent written and interpersonal communication skills. – Organized and ability to manage details efficiently and effectively. Facilitation skills – Computer proficient, including MS Word and Excel. – Flexibility, patience, tolerance and willingness to learn new related skills. – Experience in management and motivation of young people a plus. – A basic understanding of CCEO YouthBuild and commitment to the mission of the organization.

The requirements include:

1) Commitment to completing 1,700 hours of service in a span of ten months (Aug 2015-June 2016) 2) Be at least 21 years of age 3) Be a United States citizen or permanent resident 4) Some college preferred, but not required 5) Willingness to learn new skills 7) Currently in a teacher credential program is a plus.
