Jewish Literature Festival Manager – DC JCC Association – Washington, DC

The Washington DCJCC is the Jewish community’s address in our Nation’s Capital, providing uniquely urban educational, social, cultural and fitness programs to the DC community inside and outside the beltway.

The Hyman S. & Freda Bernstein Jewish Literary Festival presents the year’s best in Jewish writing by both emerging and established authors from around the world. An annual celebration of Jewish literature, the Festival features engaging author panels, readings and talks for lovers of fiction, history, politics, humor, children’s stories and much more. The DCJCC welcomes over 2000 attendees over the 11 days of the festival, and an additional 2000 people over the course of the year for other literary events. The 2015 Festival is October 18 through October 28.

The Manager of the Literary Festival will bring energy, attention to detail, and experience in event planning to this position at the DCJCC. He/she will oversee administration of the festival including: travel and hotel accommodations for visiting authors, coordinating the local author fair and event book sales, and working with DJCC staff to ensure proper room and AV set up. In addition, the manager will update the program budget and monitor all aspects of the festival. S/he will track attendance and revenue for each festival event and disseminate the evaluations. They will also oversee the Literary Festival volunteers, including working directly with the Literary Festival Committee. Working some evening and weekends will be required especially during the run of the Literary Festival (Oct 18 – 28).

This is a temporary seasonal position from August 10 – November 10, 2015.

Minimum Qualifications:

Experience with event planning, program administration and budgeting
Demonstrated knowledge of practices and procedures for planning cultural arts programs
Knowledge of the DC literary scene
Experience working with book publishers, speakers, authors, and implementing cultural events for adults and children
Ability to direct the activities of personnel and volunteers
Ability to effectively utilize computer applications and technology related to the work, including Microsoft Office Suite, Website applications and social media sites.

Requirements:

B.A.
3 years’ experience in public programing
Background in literature, humanities and contemporary affairs
Excellent writing and communication skills
