Director of Community Outreach – Academy of Fine Arts – Lynchburg, VA

The Academy of Fine Arts in Lynchburg, VA is in search of a full time Director of Community Outreach. This new full-time position will report to the Executive Director and the Director of Development. The work hours of this position will be distributed between two important Academy initiatives. Seventy five percent of work hours will be dedicated to leading the development of the Academy of Fine Arts new Community Engagement and Outreach Initiative. Thiswill include grant facilitation, some programming implementation, and possible volunteer and event coordination. The remaining twenty five percent of time will be dedicated to the Academy’s ongoing capital campaign to restore the historic Academy of Music Theatre. This activity could includegrant administration and event coordination.

Grant Writing:

After acquiring a strong knowledge of the Academy’s programs, goals, and financial needs, this individual will take part in initiative and capital campaign grant activity.This individual should have strong writing skills, strong research skills,needs to be highly organized, and should have an understanding of budgeting. Computer skills are required, with a proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.

Public Outreach:

This individual will be the point person for many outreach oriented projects. The individual should have strong interpersonal skills as they will be working directly with the public.

Qualifications:

The Academy is looking for someone highly motivated and excited about the arts and community building. A minimum of a bachelors degree is required and experience in arts administration or comparable non-profit experience is preferred.
