To better sustain, coordinate and improve local planning, development and community services that address the needs of low-income residents and small businesses in South Los Angeles.

Founded in 2005, the Coalition for Responsible Community Development has a unique focus on young people in Vernon-Central (age 16-25), and collaborates with residents, businesses, community-based organizations, civic leaders and Los Angeles Trade Technical College to improve the quality of life in our community.

Position Overview

The Outreach/Intake Coordinator will be part of an innovative team of service providers and educational experts that will work collectively to create/run an innovative program for young people in South Los Angeles that face the greatest barriers to finding employment. The Outreach/Intake Coordinator will network with education institutions, faith-based organizations, Los Angeles County Probation, Los Angeles Unified School District (LAUSD), community residents and other community based organizations to promote and share the services and opportunities available through the Youth Development Department. This position will support the Youth Development team by coordinating the various community outreach activities and services for the Workforce Development programs operated by Coalition for Responsible Community Development (CRCD). This position will be responsible for intake and eligibility for the Youth Futures program to ensure all potential applicants are transitioned into the program in the most efficient and effective time. This position will work with the current Youth Development Department Intake Specialist to support a streamlined intake system that allows youth to be processed and enrolled into all Youth Development Department programming.

Specific Duties and Responsibilities

Create and implement a community and agency outreach plan, including supervising the activities and services provided by the Outreach Team Members
Organize, attend and present at city, county and government agencies, community and neighborhood group meetings regarding the project, its impacts and intended goals
Develop public education and information materials, presentations and displays – including contributing to community events and the Youth Development Department social media sites
Contact, receive and review referrals to Workforce Program from local schools, community-based organizations, government agencies and walk-ins
Conduct individual needs assessments with regard to: basic needs such as housing and food; education level and school enrollment; current income, employment and past work experience; eligibility for Independent Living Program services through the foster care system; gang affiliation; involvement with the justice system
Oversee recruitment at public events, meetings, presentations, information sessions, etc.
Organize and participate at community outreach activities to educate the broader community about CRCD, activities and projects
Respond to public and community inquiries and brief Youth Development team on matters of public interest and concern
Support the Youth Development Team with department wide activities and assignments to ensure the success of program enrollment and outcomes
Assist youth to enroll in Los Angeles Trade Technical College to complete a high school diploma, general equivalency degree, and/or college level courses required
Facilitate and coordinate life skills workshops and educational activities for young people
Oversee the maintenance of a waitlist database of interested youth
High School Diploma and three to five years related experience or equivalent combination of education and experience
Current California driver license with a clean driving record

Excellent multi-tasking skills
Experience working with the African American and Latino community
Knowledge of Los Angeles community resources and social service providers
Knowledge and understanding of community development and non-profit sector
Excellent communication skills
Ability to facilitate public presentations
Efficient in Microsoft office suite, word, excel, and power point
Ability to speak and write Spanish

Salary

$15.00 per hour – $18.00 per hour based on experience
