Membership & Communications Associate – East Bay Housing Organizations – Oakland

Job Summary
The Membership & Communications Associate will work approximately 40 hours per week on a set schedule, with occasional evening and weekend hours to support events or programmatic work. The Associate will report directly to EBHO’s Senior Director of Membership & Operations but will work with all members of our small but mighty team.
The successful candidate will have excellent written and oral communication skills and information technology experience, be detail oriented, show a commitment to quality work, and have a proactive and collaborative approach to working with colleagues and the community. This role would be best suited for an early-career professional who is interested in learning more about affordable housing, non-profit communications, and membership engagement.

Duties and Responsibilities
Communications (30%): Support the Strategic Communications Manager in developing clear, concise and compelling digital communications including written content for e-blasts, website, and social media that helps further our mission; designing basic graphics in Canva; editing and inserting captioning in videos; drafting petitions for our advocacy work and general website maintenance.
Membership (30%): Work with our team to coordinate membership recruitment, engagement and outreach activities including tabling, phone banking and event planning; create RSVP and sponsorship forms for member events in Salsa Engage (donor database); write event copy; coordinate design and printing of collateral materials.
Affordable Housing Month (20%): Support with redesign of our Resource Guide and our online educational tool, the Study Room; support with coordinating calendar of events during the month and general comms publicity.
General administration (20%): Perform administrative tasks such as updating events calendar, note taking, attending EBHO committee meetings, and other tasks as assigned.

Key Skills and Qualifications:
Strong written and in-person communication skills to work with a diverse range of staff and partners. Strong writing in English is required.
Experience writing for the web, including writing for websites, email newsletters, and social media platforms.
Some experience with communications design, especially in Canva.
Detail-oriented with strong organizational skills. Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively, and to take on and prioritize on numerous projects.
Ability to perform remote work in a professional team environment.
Demonstrated experience and skill working in and with racially & economically diverse populations.
Commitment to the mission of EBHO, including racial and economic diversity and equity, social justice, affordable housing advocacy and community organizing.

Nice to Have:
Experience with video editing in any software.
Experience using Salsa, Salesforce or other CRMs.
Experience with WordPress or SEO.
Communication skills in Spanish or written Chinese language.

Compensation:
$65000 – $75000 FTE, depending on experience. EBHO offers a generous benefits package including 14 paid holidays, sick days, additional personal days, 401(k) employer match, and medical and dental coverage.

Work environment and safety protocols:
EBHO’s staff works under a hybrid model, with much work done remotely and an expectation that the Membership & Communications Associate and all staff will be on-site in our spacious downtown Oakland office (or in the field at meetings) at least one to two days a week. Schedules are flexible to some extent, but staff are expected to be generally available and responsive during day-time hours of 9:00 AM -5:00 PM. While much work can and will be performed remotely, employees must live within reasonable commuting distance of Oakland to take part in on-site work and events as needed, and to be connected with the community we serve.
EBHO follows all Alameda County public health guidance. We require employees to provide proof of up-to-date vaccination against COVID-19, unless they can provide documentation for a medical exemption. We may adjust our hybrid work schedule and expectations as public health conditions change.
